Alot of you guys have M6's in your cars. You guys can probably 'shift' the car for better mileage. What about all you A4 guys? All the big cams in the auto have big stalls to go along and I'm sure that kills the mileage even worse.
I want a decent car at the track but when you do DD one you don't want it to drive like a race car and get **** for mileage. You are always gonna have a sacrifce, mileage or performance.

Also its all in matching your setup, a well matched DD setup will out perform a badly setup track car.
If you get something mild, get it all mild, cant go crazy cam, stock heads, and a 4400 stall and still get good mileage and drivability. My setup will be, and I already have all except the cam, is a 228 cam (need to order still), LS6 heads, headers, true duals, LS6 intake and ported TB, with my stall and 3.23's I will be right near 400 whp and running high 11's or very low 12's and still getting good mileage. Right now I am still getting the same highway mileage and maybe 1 less city. If you want power and closest to stock mileage etc without wasting time on a cam that is too small to be worth it go with a 224/224 cam, tried and true over and over again for your concerns, but I want to sacrifice a hair more for a lil more powaaz.

You improve both mileage and performance by getting the compression ratio up (11.5 or more, up to 12) and the quench (squish) distance down (0.030" or around there), while keeping the dynamic compression ratio close to 8.7.
OR: for mileage I just drive my diesel at 21.1 to 1 static compression ratio

You defiently are right about not modding your car if you want good MPG. But i also think there is a limit to how aggressive you go with stuff like compression and race fuel. My buddy has an lt1 stroker with 13:5:1 compression running 120 race gas and a massive cam, etc. and he can bearly get 40 miles to a tank. When we drive down to the local car meets he can bearly make it there and back. To me only being able to get 40miles to a tank isnt any fun especially if i want to race around on the street.

I haven't tested city vs. hwy specifically, but I avg. 260mi on 13 gal. of gas (20mpg) w/ a 50/50 mix of both. So I have to assume something like 17 city & 24 hwy. Not too bad considering I get better gas milage than some people I know w/ 6cyl vehicles.

"By those figures, it is a 25.7% increase in fuel consumption BTW. So while $6.74 a week extra doesn't sound like much, it is a healthy increase!"
True, but the 25,7% "sounds" like a lot more than $6.74 a week.

My combined mileage with the TR 230/236 on a 112 LSA cam and my 4.10 gears is approximately 14.5mpg combined, and I do about 50/50 highway and light-to-light driving. If I do all highway, then I get about 20mpg. So, that means my light-to-light driving is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10mpg.
