ISKY Flycutting Tool for LS1
Piston to Valve Clearance Problems?
Need the correct tool for the job?
Here is the answer
I will be renting my "modified" ISKY 2-1/8" Flycutting (notching) Tool with the 5/16" pilot. It is a definite must-have tool to cut valve reliefs in the pistons to increase the PTV clearance for all of the big cams out there like the G5X2, etc. This tool has been modified to fit inside the combustion chamber WITH the valve seat installed. The head will sit perfeclty flat on the block for accurate cutting. Please send me an email or post here if you want to get on the list.
Rental Charge - $50 + shipping
Available in about 2-1/2 weeks
Thanks,
Mike

Will there be any sort of directions or can a write up be found. I am just not confident in my abilities to do most projects without any directions.

I will do a writeup and ship it with the cutter. Its really not that hard, you just have to take your time and measure everything twice.

Re: ISKY Flycutting Tool for LS1
I've used the Isky cutting tools. They work great! Comes out looking proffessional every time. Accurate measurements & having the piston at TDC (or as close as possible) is key. For this I used a degree wheel & TDC'd the cylinder prior to measuring/cutting. Then used the EXACT same degree on the wheel to ensure cuts on all pistons were in the same location.
BTW, you can buy the cutting heads for $90 each & the shaft for $35.

Yes, you can buy the cutter & guide from Isky for about $135 but its not modified like mine and the head won't sit flat on the block. Isky used to rent them but doesn't do that any longer. I just thought that renting mine which are modified for the LS1 cylinder heads that it would save someone time and money.

I'm going to be buying my own in the next couple of months (when I get ready to do my fly cuts). I figure for the cost of renting them, I might as well just go on and buy my own set.

Re: ISKY Flycutting Tool for LS1
After using the cutters on a few motors with forged pistons I've noticed some definate wear on the cutting heads. I wonder if they can be sharpened.... Anybody know?
