Default which springs for big cam?

going with a 236/242 .618 lift cam

Wondering if going with some single beehives like the PAC 1518's (rated to .650) would be better than running a dual like a PRC or Patriot gold.

What would the benefits of each would be?

I would use the PRC duals for added insurance.

The beehive offers a very light valvetrain. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, go 1518.

Exactly why I put it as an option because I allready have sodium filled valves and thought it would be nice since I'd have to rev this cam up pretty good.

Just worried about durability w/the singles.

242/248 at 613"/.617" here with Patriot Golds. Revs easily to 7200rpm. The insurance is nice too.

Patriot Golds here as well. I have .609 intake lift, .604 exhaust. No problem revving to 7000.

I had patriot gold with my t-rex and then moved to the patriot gold extremes. both revved no problem past 7200rpm. cheap insurance and well worth the money. also, i spray nitrous and have never had valve float at high rpm's to my knowledge. the car revs and drives like a champ.

If these are the LS6 valves, there can be durability issues with too much spring on those valves as they are not as strong as solid valves. Also, spring durability has more to do with the spring material, forming process and surface treatments than does single vs. double. Based on all that, I would go with the PAC beehives.

If this cam uses a very aggresive lobe, I would suggest a DUAL Crane #144832-16 or Comp #921-16 kits with TI retainers. Lift is NOT always the determining factor in spring selection.

Do you mean Crane 144833-16 as it is more of an even comparison to the Comp 26921's?

1518's especially with your light valves. Why bother to run a light valve and put a heavy dual spring on it
