Default Patriot 5.3 head Question

Alright so i just ran across a set of Patriot 5.3 heads, they have patriot valve springs rated to 8000 RPM, they came off a 5.3 bored to a 5.7 over 570hp..
I was just wondering if they would work on my 99 trans am, ive got pretty much all bolt ons besides heads/cam.. I will attach the pictures(if i figure out how) in which were sent to me. Like i said before, just wondering if these would work and what i should need to install them if they do. possibly which cam to run with these heads. casting number on the outside of the heads are 706 if that helps any

its a ported 5.3L head.. do a search... many many people run then with good results, but how much they flow, what chamber CC is, and how worn they etc etc.. are is hard to tell.... but they should be a good upgrade over your stockers...

wich cam you should run.... damn i cant believe that question hasnt ever been asked on this board...

the good answer is : depends on what your goals are....

They are only like $1000 new. 8000rpm springs dont really mean much. Springs are rated in lift, i.e. .650. They kind of look like Patriot Gold springs. How many miles on them? What lift cam was he running? If he was making 570hp i would bet his cam was over .600 lift which if he ran that more than 12,000 miles or so i would reccomend replacing the springs. You can remove them and have them tested.

Your really not getting any deal at all on those heads. $800 and being used they will need $200 worth of new valvesprings and could use a lapping of the valve seats and valves. You are now at the price of a new set of Patriot 5.3's. Get him to drop the price to $450-500.

I ran these heads for 4 years with a TR224 and made power in sig... Great head IMO..

214cc intake runnner, 2.02I, 1.57E, 63cc chambers.

Alrighty, he just sent me the specs..
They are 61 cc's in the chamber. the intake valves are enlarged from 1.85 to 2.02 and the exhaust valves are still the stock 1.57. The rocker arms where stock ratio and I think the pushrods were to. The cam he used had 580 lift on both int. and ehx. . The duration was 292 on both. The guy knows his motors in all. They came off a Dirt track motor, I know him personally he wouldnt F me over. That was also my first thought to replace vavle springs and what not, and the price was sort of high if i have to resurface them and go threw them.
He also said i could buy the motor they came off which made over 520 hp and 485 pounds of torque on the dyno with stock heads, Not these heads. for around 3200 bucks. But I have 2 lt1's, and an iron 6.0, so im not really sure thats the route I'm wanting to go

By the time you have the springs pulled, tested, reassembled, maybe buy new springs etc...your not getting a deal. It will probably cost just as much $ wise and more time wise.

I'd just buy a new set of Patriots for $995/$1049 or whatever before spending $800 on someone elses used stuff if I wanted Patriot heads.
