you should probably go with a little larger of a cam, maybe an LS6 cam or so. you could spin it to at least 6500ish with that and supporting valvetrain

I really dont understand why people want to run that high of a rpm on a stock cam/head combo? The cams were not made or speced to run that high i cant see them pulling all the way to 6800-7000 without faling on its face.

i think they do lose some power but i have heard some say its about putting yourself at a higher rpm in the next gear.

This can be a benifit sometimes but in a road course, shifting (or needing to shift) at the wrong place costs more time than running the rpm up past the power band. You are still accelerating just slower. This is faster than shifting in the wrong place which may unsettle the car and cause many other problems.

put a set of 50 dollar 02+ ls6 valvespings on and raise the limiter....i ran them with a 220/224 114 vinci cam for anout a year had the limiter set at 6600 this was also with stock push rods....the highest my stock cam setup would willfully spin to was 6400 that was with full bolt ons and stock valvetrain...good luck

We ran our 02 ls1 with cam, valve train to 7100 rpm all year long in our drift car with no problems.

Others have not been so lucky.

its a 50/50 chance some will some wont...I had my limiter set at 6600 for a year in my 98,with arp rod bolts...raised the limiter to 7200 with a bigger cam and higher flowing heads...shifting at 68-6900 rpms it lasted about 2 months...high rpmoil starvation took it out...common issue with the older ls1s...alot of it depends on the year and condition of the engine...

I am in Northbridge 10 mins away. Not a problem. The car is in heated storage until April but as soon as it is out your welcome to stop by. I think the cam is perfect. Makes great power and it extremely streetable.

It is not always the rod bolts that bite you. My rev limiter is set at 6,300 and bumped it once on race day and this was the result:
