Default should i build my bottom end?

hey guys whats up, i have a 99 ls1 and a t56 i bought it used with 70xxx miles on it. Anyways the engine is good, and i was going to do a head and cam swap from tsp (torquer 3 with 5.3 2.5 head package), oil pump, gaskets, UD pully, fast 92/92 all that **** with a tsp tune. Anyways i just landed a really sweet job a little bit ago and i do have a lot of cash to burn now and im wondering what would you guys do if you were in my shoes? Should i build the bottom end? This is for my race car its road racing this isnt a drag car or a daily driver. I thought about doing a stroker but im not really sure if its worth it, ive had a lot of previous motors and what not and i can really break some **** haha im pretty good at it so even if it is built ill find a way to blow her haha.

But anyways im really considering building it, maybe even doing some kind of high comp piston if my PTV clearance wont be too bad, but thats why im asking you guys Car doesnt always have to run on pump gas as long as tsp could tune for it ill but in 110 or c16 or what ever is nessacery i use to have a turbo 4banger that i had to run c16 with so its whatever

I say build it, you got the $$ and it'll be more reliable for ya. Just don't put a underdrive pulley on it...

well i know in the import world (where i came from lol)

the UD pulley would kill our bearings, but that was all on I4, to lsx's have the same issue?

Basically all UD pulleys except ATI are the cause of chains breaking. ASP seems to be the main culprit though.

LS3 is a Gen IV engine. I havent heard of any timing chain/UD pulley problems on a Gen III block

Thank goodness. Still kinda makes you wonder though........

To the OP......

If I were road racing I would at least upgrade pistons, rods and bolts in the bottom. The crank is pretty tough for an OEM unit so you can get by here if you want to. If you don't freshen it up be aware the stock rod bolts are a real weakness on the 97-00 LS1's They actually started upgrading in late 00 IIRC but all 01-02's got improved versions. If you want to upgrade here but don't wanna tear the motor down Katech are all I would use. Search this...

You may also want to look at a better oil pan because a lot of bearing failures were traced to oil starvation issues. There are some aftermarkets I have seen that claim to alleviate the problem. Most all RR'ers now like LS6 blocks because they have windows in all 5 bulkheads near the crank to allow better bay to bay breathing which allows more ventilation and helps with oil starvation.

Oh...and strokers are GREAT for RR because the torque comes in much earlier and stronger Plus in theory anyway, you don't have to spin as high to make the same power so your motor will have more longevity.
