Default 228r whats better hp for DD?

I've got a 228r for my rebuild project, I got it 6 mos ago but I've been reading about these rev split cams. I know the 228r will give me the smooth idle for a DD, but with sooo many other cams out now I thought best to look around before putting it in...

Everything is new, ls6 crank/rods/pistons, 243 patriot 2 heads and all the usual boltons.

My goal is nothing too loopy, my 228r is a 114lsa so I could go to 112. I'd also like nothing too high lift up to .600 is ok. RWHP is 410-420

Thx

I have the 228R on a 114. Although I dont use it as a daily, the car drives good enough that I could. Its got some lobe, but nothing stupid. A friend of mine has the same set up at me, but has 228R is on a 112 and you cant really tell the differance at idle. The funny part is, I put down about 7 more RWHP than he did on the same dyno on the same day about 20 minutes between his and my run. Honesty I dont think the LSA had much to do with that, but HP between cars with the same set ups can differ like that. Im just glad I was on the higher side lol

Thanks Phil. I still may go a it bigger. Just to make sure I'm over 400rwhp. Looking at something over 230+ on maybe a 112...

I think you will easily see 400+ rwhp with a 228R or bigger cam with some 243's ported or not.

Thanks Peety, I like your sound clip. I chose my new Patriot 2s over my ported 5.3s. Goal is 400 especially since my LT1 is 390. My buddy is talking about a 233/239 504/639 but maybe on a 113 or 114. I've got the springs for it.

I would stick with the 228R if the car is going to be a DD. It will easily meet the power goal you have set. My car made 400rwhp cam only with the 228R.

Car drives great and has a nice lopey idle.
