Default Engine Noise

I have an 02 SS, I get a churning noise at start up and if I idle to long. Ive asked everyone I know and I get several different answeres. Car runs good without any problems but I have a feeling all is not well.

Ive asked a local mechanic and he said it sounds like "Piston Slapping", and that hes heard its common on some camaros. I also heard that it could be bad lifter, I dont know what it could be. After the car warms up it goes away, but Like I said after long idle it returns. Any Help

Spun bearing? Piston slap will go away after it warms up.

If its a bearing, then yes it needs attention, a complete rebuild.

Hopfully its not that though.

Pull the oil plug and look at the magnet. It should have a small film of "dust or paste" on it. This is actually normal. If there is a lot, you have a problem. Lifter noise and rod knocks get worse with heat as the oil thins out. Stop running the engine until you get a professional diagnosis. Piston slap is very common on Chevrolet engines, trucks and cars. It goes away with the warming of the motor. When the engine reaches temperature, the parts expand to fit the tolerences and the noise goes away. If you have noise, peices are rubbing and "throwing metal" and being circulated in the oil and through the motor. This can cause catastrophic failure If not addressed. Keep us posted.
