Default question on head install

do i need to remove the intake manifold to just do a head install or can i leave it on?

It needs to come off. You can't get to the small head bolts with it on.

Considering the intake is bolted to the heads, I'd say there is no choice but to remove it.

Study up on this a good bit before you try it. Better yet, get a good shop to do it for you.

o boy. give me sum credit here. i did the cam install and it cam out perfect and i already installed the ls6 intake last yr. i just wanted to save sum work thats all. anything beside the fuel line removal tool from gm to get the fuel line off. maybe somethin homemade. just dont feel like waitin for the part to come in. last yr i pried it off with a screw driver but that was a bitch

Any good auto parts store should stock a set of fuel line disconnect tools like these for under $10. http://www.toolsource.com/ost1/produ...J74FSANH406EEB I got a set just like those at O'Reillys. They work on Ford A/C connections too.

Yup, I've never seen an autoparts store that didnt have a fuel line disconnect tool for a GM. And if you are just replacing the heads, you can just unbolt the intake manifold, but leave the fuel line disconnected. The intake can be set aside far enough so that its not really in the way of the head install. I'd recommend getting the disconnect tool though, since it's so easy.

Ive done it with and without the fuel rails attached....MUCH easier to remove the fuel rails...
