ls6 block
do you guys see any problems using ls1 block over ls6 block. I have the chance to buy a 2004 ls6 engine that broke starter ear off and guy transfered everything to ls1 block . reringed and resealed. any info would be great
the ls6 has slightly better oil flow and in the main webs between the cylinders there are cutouts that are supposed to allow the air to flow from one cylinder pair to the other at high speeds to prevent too much pressure on the underside of the piston. GM said it's supposed to alleviate some of the parasitic draw that pressure below the piston in the crankcase causes at high speeds. I dunno if it makes much of a difference, but I'm quoting GM here.
Although, back when GM started broadly using fuel injection in passenger cars and the mixture got leaned out to what it is now, they called the resulting detonation from poor engine management and the general lack of understanding "the sound of economy," when it was actually the sound of the engine destroying itself.
Just a thought...

very VERY few 02's got the LS6 block. LS6 block has better bay-to-bay breathing than the earlier LS1 block also. the blocks have a hole machined thru the main webs to improve bay-to-bay breathing. the hole cures the bay-to-bay oil vapor pumping issues
Some '01's had it, too. Mine did. At least until I put two holes in the side of it!! Thanks, Comp Cams 918 springs!
