Big engines make more TQ. this means less gear and lower rpm to go just as fast and quick.

Big heads and cam and intake make big HP which really dermines how long in rpm you can keep making your big TQ before you engine runs out of air and fiel.

They aren't fighting each other as they are a a part of each other.

If you have the most HP at any rpm then you also have the most TQ there too.

That's why I like bigger engines as they can take the same heads and intakes that wouldn't work that well until very high rpm on a small engine and with the larger engine it will make the same or more power down lower in rpm so you can have your big power and at a reasonable rpm.

Damn I know I just saw that too but that's what happens when you are high on cold medicine and are stuck at the house like me!

Big smooth torque curve as high as it will go and then let the horsepower take it the rest of the way. Torque is more fun....but breaks stuff.

so really, the actual question here, is not, which one is better, since that has been shown to be a mute point, but rather, as allgn pointed out, what type of setup is better, to give u more of one over the other, but then, its all dependent on use, preference, ect. So really, a mute point all together, cause its a matter of opinion of which way u take u car!

Vehicle weight and gearing also plays a huge role. The lighter the car, the less low end torque you need or even want. If you have too much low end torque it becomes impossible to hook up with a lighter car, but in a heavier car, you need that extra torque to get it moving. It's all about the right package.

I'd personally like to get about 500 rwhp and 475 rwtq which I think would be a blast on the street. I could even get away with going back down to a 3.42 gear instead of having 3.73s.

Everyone here is retarded. Seriously. I expected more from this forum...

Torque - MOMENT OF FORCE - the tendency of a force to rotate something about its axis, fulcrum or pivot.

Horsepower - The amount of work done by a system.

My answer? I would rather have torque, everywhere. Why? No, not to tow my boat, trailier, cousins house... etc.

Rather that, with torque, horsepower comes. This is proven my the age-old formula.

[(Torque) X (engine speed)] divided by (5252) = HORSEPOWER

Therefore, the more torque I have, the more horse I have at ANY GIVEN RPM.

Far from an expert but to me a V-8 (350 CI +) makes enough torque. There were plenty of old big block big torque motor muscle cars that felt really fast that ran a wooping mid thirteen second run. On my 427, the rpms have to build, but it would destroy those muscle cars.

On the other hand, I wouldn't want a high hp 4 cylinder turbo motor even if it was much faster than mine. That seems to be the difference between american v-8 cars and most european cars. Most american cars have a much more torquey feel. I like that feel but I don't need to have more.

Also when I say horsepower I don't mean peaky.

I rather have a million dollars.. wait wut was the question again?

HP is a product of torque.. you want both duh.

The real question is.. what part of the powerband do you want that power?

Wow this has to be the most logical answer to this 5 page thread. You sir should be given a medal of some type.

Horsepower wins races hands down. Look at any drag car and See how much more hp it makes then torque. Especially n/a cars
