Or you could have a honda s2000 motor that makes 100ft/lbs of torque and 250hp, but peak hp comes at like 9600rpm.
Also, sometimes too much low end torque is useless on the street. Case in point is some of the dyno's that I've seen of Kenne Belled corvettes that made 800ft/lbs of torque at 2000-4500rpm. The instant hit of torque is just too brutal to be able to hook up.
I think a progressive torque peak, like you get from a supercharger is a happy medium. Good torque, no turbo lag, and a big hp number.
