Default Who has used Cometic MLS gaskets w/no leaks?

About to put new TFS 215 heads on along with cam. I originally bought GM MLS gaskets because of the posts about Cometic leaks on this forum. I will clean the block really well!
My friend helping me strongly recommended that Cometics .040 would be better with my setup. We are planning to degree cam and torque down heads tomorrow.

Looking for any tips for success and a little confidence!

I bought the mls gaskets, because i heard of that same issue..

But usually its because of the block..You cant run a 00 up head gasket on the 97-99 blocj because it will leak coolant out, some tab or notching i think is the difference between the gaskets..It dosent matter the heads weather they be a 243, 806, etc etc, you determine it by year of the block..As long as you get the gasket by block year u will be fine..

But yeah i heard the comtec gaskets are hit or miss with leaks

I haven't had any problems with mine. They are .040" cometics. I spent alot of time cleaning the block and installed new heads. I think prep has alot to do with it.

Correction....its not the block that determines the gasket it is the head....3.90 bore speaking.

FWIW: I've used them several times. Some leaked - some didn't and everything was prepared the same in both cases. I'm running them now - fingers crossed.

I cleaned mine and prepared the surface to mid 20's on the Ra. Measured for flatness to make sure it was within Cometic specification and then dusted the Cometics with Hylomar spray.

If you are worried about the cometics leaking, you could go against what cometic says and use some copper coat on them. I'm running .040 cometics in the 418 installed dry like they said, and it is fine so far. It's a 12:1 motor too.

I've ran them on three of my motors with no problems. 2 of them we used the copper spray and 1 I used hylomar. I've heard good/bad stories about them both ways. I've since swapped to the mls gaskets with great results as well.

I guess I should be fine and we will try them dry with proper block/head prep. The ARP head studs may help too I have heard with good clamping force!

We have never had a cometic or a GM MLS gasket leak. Not ever. Don't really know why people have issues with either? We don't coat them with anything unless we are reusing them and then sometimes use the copper coat spray.

I have cometics .052 thick, arp studs and boost. No leaks, I have even lifted the heads and reused the gaskets, no problems here.
