Did you degree the cam?
Your compression results were no great either for a fresh block

Oh really.. so what's the DCR with a stock cam?

202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
116 LSA

because it's smaller.. why aren't stock engines detonating to hell and back?

They don't have 59cc chambers netting 11.3:1 SCR for one thing

Still, that would only put you in the 8.75 range, lots of people run that on pump gas. He's essentially running the same DCR as a stock cam with milled heads. The 118 lsa is helping a lot. DCR is not his problem.

I'm not saying it couldn't ever work, but its definitely closer to the threshold of straight pump than most people's h/c cars on here, and a ways up from stock.

I think they were just trying to say there was a possibility of it having had problematic detonation (which may or may not have been) one of many potential issues.

I'm actually putting something similar together for a DD project, higher SC and a small duration cam with some LSA making for border-line DCR...looking for it to pop off real nice with a stock-like power curve on 93 and a careful tune.

FWIW, in my experience, DCR only has so much actual weight on KR and gas tolerance...I've gone to harder-hitting stuff with no change in gas tolerance and also been surprised at certain setups that had issues...

Well yeah there's lots of toher things that go into it. Quench for one. Hell you can even throw bore size into the equation as well as anything that can create a hot spot like a sharp edge in a combustion chamber. Lots of little things..

Very nice, glad you resolved it. Just be careful with detonnation on that DCR. Check your plugs and see if any signs also have your tuner read for any KR.
