I've checked the lifters, pushrods, valves, they're all fine. I can hear metal, and a knocking noise.

Depends how bad it is and how deep of a rebuild you want to do or it needs...it could be a simple as rebearing, rering, hone the cylinders and throw in a oil pump, timing set and gaskets...or you could have to get the crank cut, rods reconditioned, bored or resleeved or more On Top of the first option. Depends on the damage....and how much the shop charges...

for around 3k u are able to get a stock rebuilt 6.0 engine.
find a 6.0 longblock, have it bored .030 with stock replacement pistons around 400$ with rings, pressed to stock rods, rebuild the 317 heads with upgraded springs and rev 2.02 valves and valvejob, milled. ls6 cam. with new gm valvetrain, ls2 chain, lifters,. can reuse stock rocker arms..
