First, thanks for a great thread with lots of valuable info :thumbsup:

Also, as someone else posted, how well would this cam work with stock LS1 heads? I'm also interested & I'llhave stock heads, LS6 intake (02 Trans Am), LT's & ORY with the double springs & chrome molly push rods?

Is there a cam with similar characteristics but with a little less lift?

I don't plan on getting heads for a while but if this cam will work well with both stock & S/2 heads I think I've found the cam for my setup.

Thanks Patrick for contributing all this info as well as you other guys that 'know your stuff' Thanks in advance for your thoughts & wisdom! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Patrick,

You have a good technical background and know your stuff, but please do not call this an "Old Mans Cam". I'm 58 and the guys I ran with and still do from the 60's like lopey cams and loud exhaust. We could not be acussed of sneaking up on anyone. Just beat them fair and square. We want everyone to think the worlds comming to an end when we pull up. Just my 2 cts.

well i was the one that got the email saying they are going to install one, but again, no word on anything yet. TR will wait untill they have all the bugs out and get the programing perfect first before releasing info.

as for Patrick G, dont know why he doesnt just give us a dyno of his. most here are smart enough to understand an auto's dyno graph wont look pretty, but shows important info.

October 15th - original post - my excited
November 15th, December 15th, January 15th - nothing.

It's been 3 months, I'd expect em to release the info on this cam by now...unless it doesn't live up to the original expectations (I hope it *does*).

This is the cam I want - and TR still doesn't have any info on their site. <sniffle>

OK guys here is the latest on the "Old Man Cam":

We have a 6-speed car with all the bolt-ons scheduled for install on this cam in early February. We were going to install it in December, but we have decided to wait on the Comp dual valvesprings that will fit in the factory spring pocket with no modification. These should be out for testing very soon. They are going to be a "dual" Comp 918 and they are expecting this spring to be very stout. We feel these will be better choice than the 918s since they will handle a little more lift and will be able to setup with more closed/open pressure. We had the option of going with a less agressive intake lobe and running Comp 918s, but decided against this since would defeat the whole purpose of this cam choice.

The 918s may work with this cam, but we would definitely not feel comfortable running them in this application.

Look for some new information in the coming weeks.

This sounds like you're aiming for use with stock heads, correct? Are the REV duals not a viable option? If I'm having a set of heads worked, wouldn't I just have them set up for BMF duals and be done with it? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Thanks! Looking forward to good results from this design. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

How's this for an "Old Man Cam" setup with good reliability:

* 218/220 Duration cam on a 114 or 115 lobe center, .527-.530 lift
* 1.8:1 ratio rocker arms (.560" lift)
* 2002 ZO6 valvesprings
* Lightweight 2002 ZO6 intake or Titanium intake valves, stock exhaust valves.
* Titanium retainers

Result, a very durable setup using proven components, more valve motion, less lifter acceleration. This should net about 400 RWHP with the right heads and other bolt ons.

Sorry guys. I can't help you with dyno sheets for the SS. When we installed the cam at Thunder Racing, we did a quick before and after dyno. The prelimary numbers with the 230/224 cam were much lower than they had been before (in the 360 rwhp range). The 215/220 cam was installed an dynoed. It made more power than the 230/224 cam up to 6400 (sometimes 15-20 rwhp better). After 6400 rpms, it died quickly. I never got the dyno sheets. I always planned on re-dynoing the car and getting some hard evidence, but I would up selling the car December 7th. There won't be any dyno mumbers from my car I'm sad to say. The M6 from Thunder Racing will be better for a before/after comparison since mine wasn't up to full strength when it was tested.

Jason, any comment on whether you are targeting this cam at stock heads? I'm puzzled about the spring issue. (BTW, any update on the Comp duals?)

How would this cam work out on a turbo engine?

I'm in the process of pulling it all apart for a refresh and thought of changing cams to get something that would offer a bit more down low until the turbo's spool up.

Little less choppy than I have and a bit easier to tune around.

I'm not sure what is in there right now as ARE never gave me exact specs but its a larger split duration.
