Help me fool my friendly local GM tech - which cam is stealth enough?
As it stands right now... I plan on getting the ZO6 cam kit from SDPC. I would like a little more gain than that, as the install is a bit cumbersome. Are there any other cams w/ good stock-like idle, and a tad more increase than the ZO6?

Why do you need to trick your GM Tech? For warranty reasons???
If so, go with the Z06, and use 918 springs, so when you reach your warranties end of life you can simply swap in a cam-hell it only takes about 2.5hrs then.

how much into the warranty are you trying to stay; i noticed you have a lid and catback, are you gonna go with LT's or other bolt ons too. without other bolt ons to compliment a cam you wont see much gains.

I don't know what setups the Stealths were in that you guys heard but I can assure you that you can't tell mine is there when idled at 650-700. I can just barely tell it's not stock when idled at 600. I can tell it more with the cuttout open. The exhaust does make quite a difference in what is noticable and what is not. I use the stock Z28 muffler with an electric cuttout.
Maybe the 220/115 LSA Stealth isn't as stealthy as my 224/116 LSA? I would think they should be about the same with the extra 4 degrees of intake duration making up for the extra degree of LSA.
Anyway, the ONLY way you can tell mine is there is by the valvetrain noise. It's not alot, but it IS there. Anyone coming to the Thunder Shootout will be able to verify how truly stealthy my setup is.

I can vouch for what Slowhawk is saying. A local guy has the TR224 (dunno LSA) in his car and I couldn't tell. Sounded like it had a CAT-back and thats it. He told me all he did was raise the idle. Had LT's and Y to boot!
I don't think the soundclip for MTI's stealth cam does it any justice. They recorded right behind the exhaust. They need to get some sound clips walking around the car and from short distances. Some reving and drivebys would be nice
BTW IrateTA if the tech is smart or if he cares he can check the VE of the engine to tell if there have been any internal modifications

My car sounds nothing like that one. That one is idled up higher and is louder. Mine simply sounds like a stock Z28. Not one person that has heard it has asked me if it had an aftermarket cam.

Better yet, there is a kickass search function now, time to go test it out
Edit: Colonel I couldn't find your dyno post of the MTI stealth cam, can you send me the link or PM me the dyno graph.
I have gathered dyno and setup info for TR220, LPE GT2-3 and LS6. Just missing your dyno graph. Once I sort out the information I'll post it here or on a separate thread.
Thanks!

This is open cuttout v/s closed...
This is before heads/cam v/s after...
This graph shows RPM (though it doesn't go up high enough)...
All numbers are with the converter locked.

Back in the day, the B1 was super stealthy. The first cammin' LS1 in Chicago had something like a B1, Jayson would remember doing the car.
I think a 220/220//115 could be stealthy with a 800-850 idle.
I have heard a 218/218/114 and a 216/220/115 and they were both like invisible.

Sorry for the noobie questions... just looking to people w/ experience. The FLP LT's and Y w/ cats are planned for my car - so the cam won't go unused.

99-215/220-115 Thunder Racing Custom "Old Man" Camshaft - 215/220 .600/.523 115 LSA This is the perfect cam for someone looking for a stock range power band and stock sounding idle. Significant horsepower gains throughout the RPM range. No computer tuning required. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

I have a TR220 with 114 LSA in an automatic car. The PCM was tweeked by Thunder.
It idles fairly smooth, but, it does not idle as smooth as stock and there is some valvetrain noise (sewing machine) do to the fast ramps on this cam.
Bottom line ... It is NOT stealth even if the car has LT headers with cats and a very quiet SLP dual/dual catback.

I have the "off the shelf" Comp 216/220 114lsa, idles at 750 and it is 3 times louder than stock and I had a full computer tune. Good power thru low-midrange but needs headers for the top end.

FLPs w/ORP
Cutout
MTI SS2
Idle is ~850-900 RPM
It does lope through the cutout. I'll get you some soundclips. It's pretty tame through the Magnaflow muffler, though.

It lopes at 850-900 RPM? Man, that's strange. I get just the slightest bit of lope at 600. Maybe just a grunt at 650 with the cuttout open. Nothing at all 700 or above regardless of if the cuttout is open or not. The car doesn't even shimmy or shake. Smoooooooooooth!
