Stalls and Cams...
I'm looking at possibly putting a stall in my car since it's an auto but have been getting pretty mixed opinions about it. I'm just wondering how a small stall (i.e. 2800-3200) affects daily driveability. Also any suggestions as far as makers of stalls would be appreciated as well.
I've also been told that a 228 cam would probably be best for my car, any ideas as far as cams would be helpful too.

I went from a stock stall to a 4000 stall that failed. Then I went with a 3600. I wish I had went with a 4000 again. I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble for anything smaller. If you're worried about driveability with a big stall just swap gears and it will be much better. I just went from 2.73s to 3.42s and was impressed with the part throttle response with the stall. It feels similar to what the stock stall with 2.73s feels like.
I would be weary of dumping too much money into the 4L60E or performance parts for it. It is a weak transmission barely adequate for the stock power of an LT1. Some people have good luck with them. I didn't on either on the Trans Ams I have had. Just something to think about.

Yank is way to go for sure. But I went from a stock stall to my SS4000 and I can tell the difference but you get used to it. It is one of the best things I have bought for the car(untill I drive with the new parts)
As far as the cam goes it really depends on what stall you choose.
I went with the ms3 mainly because I dont DD the car and I wanted something that would work well with the larger stall. But you can talk to the guys over at Texas Speed they are very helpful and can help you find a cam that will match what you are wanting to get out of the car.

If you are looking to do a cam and converter, I would probably try to get a converter to compliment the camshaft. If you are looking at a 228R camshaft, then I would probably lean more toward a 3000-3400 stall speed converter. That particular camshaft doesn't need quite as much converter as say a MS3/MS4 sized camshaft. Of course you can go bigger on the stall, but if you aren't at the track trying to get everything you can get out of the car, then a large 4000+ stall probably isn't what you are wanting. With a lower stall speed, you will keep the car more streetable, have better gas mileage in town, and still make good gains at the track!
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help you out!

I have 3:42 gears with a custom 3k stall, my street-ability is good, I would say to do like i did and get a built trans and stall and trans cooler at the same time and do it all at once. My trans blew up so I needed a new one anyways. The 4L60E is not that bad, just need to find a place that knows them well.
Good luck and I say a lower stall is good for street-ability, gives you great road manners, something to consider is finding a 3k -3400 stall and I would say close to a 2.4 to 2.5 str, from my understanding the str is what gives you a little better street manners and the closer to 2.5 the better the manners.

If you are going to cam the car then pick your cam first and match a stall to it.
You choose your stall based on your driving manners (tight or loose) and to match the cam to the stall shift extensions.

welcome to wholesale lace wigs, also provide cosplay wigs and synthetic wigs all with very high quality and best price!
I daily drive my car with the VRX3 cam (226/228 .585 .588 114 LSA) and the Yank SS3600 and I love it. I had the stall installed first and it did awesome with just bolt ons. It's really easy to drive, you'll get used to it fast. The first time I drove my car after putting the stall in, it just felt like I was driving through a little mud or something. I can't even remember how it drove with the stock stall anymore now that I'm used to the SS3600.

Awesome, I've been hearing a lot from some of the local car guys that I would hate how my car would drive with a stall, but the Chevy guys I've met are all for it... once I get the money it's definitely going towards a cam and stall.
My dad was a Chevy mechanic for years so I'll have him look over my car and make sure everything is good (the tranny and all that junk)

I was running a Vigilante 2800 stall for a while. It would actually flash around 3200-3400 though. Vigilantes tend to do that ( flash higher than rated). But around town, it definitely made the car more fun to drive, and gas mileage was maybe slightly effected. The transmission has since gone out ( Bought the car with a stall, someone installed it incorrectly..... boom). I have since gone with a Vigilante 4000 and I love it. (As stated earlier, my 4000 actually stalls at ~4400) My in-town gas mileage has suffered, but it's an animal at the track.
I will say, the 2800 launched excellent at the track also.

I agree on selecting a cam first then pick your stall. I would give Chris at Circle D a call after you select a cam. I had an LMR 232/234 595 cam with a 3500 Circle D converter and Drove it daily with no problems.
