Default Sleeper cam

I'm thinking about putting a cam in my 99 Z28 to go along with the LS6 intake and PP TB. I want something that I can preferably use with a stock stall or maybe a 2200 stall. I want it to be a real sleeper. I'm not looking for max hp or tq, just want to run around 7.6X or a little faster in the 1/8 mile. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mike

I agree, any of the small cams (220,224, maybe 228) on a 114 or 116 LSA will be good sleepers, keep some cats on for extra quietness.

Yeah, don't bother with high flow cats. The stock ones flow just fine. Magnaflow muffler + cats + higher LSA cam = quiet

228 is not a sleeper I am running that on the 114 and its sounds pretty loud maybe because I have longtubes and no cats but its not a sleeper not a big cam but no sleeper cam, 220 on 116 would be more sleeper

I just ordered a magnaflow and the previous owner cut the cats off. I'm eventually going to do headers and a Y since the cats are gone. What kind of times can I expect in the 1/8 mile with the 220 cams? 224?

LOL, it's not going to be a sleeper with no cats! If you want it to be a sleeper you need something with a wide LSA. There are lots of choices out there. Thunder and Lingenfelter have nice cams that will sound almost like stock.

a 114lsa with the proper tune will have very little lope to it in the 220 duration range...

Hi Mike,

219/223 .607/.610 111+1 LSA
If you are going to stall it, 2800 stall (2.0>2.2 str)

What kinda of times will something like this put down on the 1/8 mile with supporting mods and full bolt on minus water pump? How long will the springs last with that kind of lift and would I NEED a stall?

Damn that is alot of lift for a small cam. As long as you warm the springs up like they are supposed to before hammering it and heat cycle them. A while... lol. You will run mid 7's with that honestly.

Well my buddy ran 7.50 with his 408 so I would like to get close to that. Don't ask why it was so slow.... If I can get with in a tenth I can take him easy.

I don't have any experience with camshafts yet. (And I must stress the "yet.") But I've come across this on youtube a couple of times. This makes me wanna do something similar. Check it out.

Pretty sure that one hasn't been tuned... that cam has -8 degrees of overlap and should have a MUCH smoother idle when tuned properly

Anybody have a sound clip of something close to this? Will it still be half way smooth with the 111 LSA?

Gone 7.5@93MPH in the 1/8 with my setup so far and she still has a little left in her too.

That would be plenty good for me. Just wonder how the cam predator speced me sounds at idle.
