Default Install cost for heads and cam

How much does it cost (in general) to have heads and cam installed by a shop (just the labor). Thanks

I'll bet in the $1000 range. I was with a buddy and a local shop here quoted him $85/hr which equalled $1150 total.

Thats what I was thinking, a local mechanic shop that we use for the company fleet quoted me 600-700 but they are not a specialty shop, and the specialty shop basically said with parts it would be 4 k (now I could get the parts for 1,800 so they want to charge me 2200 for install, sounds way too high).

Thanks

WOW! tell em to take a walk man!

CMS did mine for 1000 bucks if I remember correctly. I have since learned how to do most of the under hood work myself. Let me tell ya man go get the craftsman 100 piece mechanics tool set and the Chilton manual, bookmark LS1 how to and do the swap yourself. You'll spend initially on tools, and it might take a little bit longer than having a shop do it, but with all the money you will save in labor the tools will pay for themselves and then some.

$4k including parts! They're trying to bend you over on that one. I'm sure there's some other shops near you that are a little more reasonable. Are you near Precision Motorsports?

Precision Motorsports in in Tallahassee. How far is that from you 2-3hrs? Something to look into if it saves you a lot of money.

Hey bro, look into EFI Alchemy in Jax, brand new shop they just opened, very nice and very cool guys, they quoted me around $1600 for install and dyno/street tune, I would be supplying my own parts. Harrison is the owner, they are not a site sponsor, but look for them in the Florida section. Here is their phone number....904-923-3907

A good street and dyno tune is easily worth $600....

My tune was $350, so I'm gonna have to say no on a $600 tune as well.

Agreed. I guess its what you are willing to pay but I have a great tuner that will do the whole 9 for 350.

im not a mechanic or an expert in anything but the advice "do it yourself its not hard" that i hear all over this board is wrong. some people dont have the skills others do and a head and cam swap IMO is not the right starting point, maybe an intake but not heads and cam, thats how **** breaks.

just my two cents

i would guess a grand.

Well how else is anyone going to learn? I had some friends that had the tools and experience to help me out as I'm sure everyone does but if you take it slow and follow directions it isn't hard.

Its the little things that they don't tell you in the books and how to sections that can get you into trouble. I too am debating doing it myself as oppose to paying a local tuner shop, but at least when you pay a knowledgable experienced mechanic to do it, you know its not their first go wrong, thus if something does break, your not kicking yourself in the nuts for forgetting to do something you didn't know you had to do. Yeah headers and intake is one thing as mere bolt-ons, but the internals are put together with such precision that it can be intimidating to a novice to try and tackle in your garage.

Well I've done intakes and minor stff before but recently hurt back so I was going to have someone at least help.

I have a friend who has done it before so I figure I'll get him to help me.
