Default Cam only, low numbers??

Alright guys so I finally got my 4k stall an gears installed this past month and had a cam swap done at the same time.....and Im PISSED!...I was hoping for the car to put down close to 400rwhp however figured it wouldnt due to the automatic as well still having the ls1 intake on there. However the car only ended up putting down 354 hp to the wheels. Help me out guys, am I overreactingg and does that sound right or is there something wrong?

The cam is a custom spec from pat G and the specs are 231/235 with I believe a 600/601 lift or so. I had the springs an pushrods and all supporting stuff put in along with the cam and had it dyno tuned. Im also dissapointed in the fact that the car has only done a 12.4 witht he 4k stall,3.73 gear, panhard, sfc's,lowercontrol arms and eibach drag springs in the front. This was launching the car at 2k rpm and dead hooking on M/T dr's.

Sorry I know that part isnt part of internals but my main concern is why this doesnt seemt to be doing what it should! Help me out here guys, the person who now does my car and builds grudge cars says it could be the tune, me and him have discussed it and are thinking of switching out to the g5x4, having a different place dyno it and throw a 200 shot at it for next years racing season if noone has an idea whats wrong here! Thanks for any responses and sorry this is so long Im just really frustrated about the performance

op,
I'm only 20 hp short of what your making,
I have only bolt-ons, no tune and dyno was done on 95+degree day.
Once I install my cutout and with a tune and cooler weather I will be at where you are.

are you completely stock other than the cam?
if so, then you need the boltons. look what they did for my car.

Put an ls6 intake and a cutout on it, I bet you will be in the 11s with traction in the fall.
Hell I only put down 340 with a cam, got pissed just like this but end up running 1170 @114.

Be a little more detailed about your setup:
Give full mods
What weight with you in it?
What was the DA?
What was you 60'?
What 4k stall?
Stock tranny?

agreed, lots more info we need, plus all dynos are different. Keep in mind some of the numbers floating around here are inflated by either the dyno or the person behind the keyboard.

LS6 intake would free up some ponies, maybe 10-15... What about your mph and weight?

Sorry guys I forgot my sig no longer has all my info in it once I started grudge racing.
Mods are as follow:
Long tube headers, ory, borlamouth catback, Vigilante 4k stall, motive 3.73 gear, the cam is a 231/235 on a 600/601 lift i believe. Suspension I have LCA's and relo brackets, panhard bar, and eibach draglaunch springs up front. The car is on M/t drag radials.

The car is FULL weight, I drive it almost every single day and has full interior. On my 12.4 run the car 60 ft'd I believe in the high 1.7's or low 1.8. I MPH'd 108 on that pass.

There is stock heads and stock ls1 intake on the car currently, I believe they're 853 heads because it is a 1999.

Also forgot to mention the tune was done at Straightline Performance on their mustang dyno so Im thinking maybe thats why as well? I'm really not too concerned about the numbers it makes, more the 1/4 mile time, thought I should definetely be int he 11's or at least very close.

Also I rreally dont know my exact weight but its a full loaded ws6 t/a and Im about 160lbs so im guessing pretty heavy!

Who did the install? Is it possible you're off a tooth? I wouldn't worry so much with the dyno numbers but your trap is low for a cammed ls even with the ls1 intake.

I have a similar cam from Patrick...spec'd out at 231/235 .617"/.621" but cam doctor shows 232/237. I checked it dot to dot and it was off 3 deg so I degreed it to the recommended 109 ICL. Dyno numbers don't mean everything and being on a mustang dyno it's probably closer to 370+RWHP on a DJ plus at least another 10 w/ an LS6 intake would put you around 380RWHP which is still a hair low. However the track mph is a little lower than I would've expected. I bet the intake is probably holding it back pretty good. What do you have for air intake ahead of the throttle body...aftermarket lid?

with a big cam like that...you should gain more than 10hp with the LS6 intake.

i think that's holding you back ALOT.

what's the rest of the intake setup? does it have a lid? ported TB?

all those little things add up.

So Your Dyno is 354rwhp, I dont think that is bad seeing as you have a big stall and a big cam, but something is not right. Post up your dyno graph, you should be running atleast 4 to 5 mph faster and your short times are terrible. Was the weather that bad, were you babing it out the hole is it *******? Just for Comparison , My old 99 Ta, full weight with half tank gas, had bolt on's with the old school 216/220 comp cam with a TCI 3800 and 342's in the rear , No suspension mods and on a ET street I could pull on average 1.55 to 1.65 short time and my car would MPH at 112/114mph and run in at 11.70-11.90s depending on weather. By the way my car only put down 343rwhp on the dyno jet.

If you do not have supporting mods, heads, intake, exhaust, injectors, and a good tune to tiew it all in together your numbers are going ot be hampered because you are trying to push a lot more air and fuel through stock supporting equipment.

Perfect example, if you are using a house hose to push water pressure from a house your ok, but if your trying to push water through the same hose from a Fire truck one your still going to push the same amount maybe a little more but it is futile to flow the same water a fire hose would and that's what your trying to do. If you have stock intake, heads, exhaust then really your not going to make that much more HP.

Cam only TrickFlow stg III, put down 388/373ft-lbs, I have since Swapped my ShitMaster that came on the car with a 3" Magnaflow catback and a Cutout so lets call it 400/375.

swap that intake and you'll gain 15-20hp and port your tb if it isn't already.
