Default I need an opinion on a cam heads setup.

Alright so my buddy has a bone stock 99 formula and is dead set on having 400rwhp with stock or very near stock driveability.

He will be running a vigilante 3200 stall, dynamaxx longtubes with their catted Y-pipe, LS6 manifold, Ported TB, and whatever heads and cam will give him the power he is looking for. I have a 224/230 .581/.592 114LSA that I am getting ready to pull out of my car and suggested him picking that up for cheap off me and tossing a set of AFR 205's and he would have his goals met with excellent streetability for a daily driver. I think he seems to think it is too big. He seems to think the GM hotcam will give him his results but I dont see why he wouldn't go a little bigger. Any input would be appreciated!

i got a vig 3200, 3.73, all bolt ons, stock heads, and LS6 intake and run the X1 230/227 and made 395rwhp. drivability is very much close to stock.

I'd think a 228r and some prc 5.3's would be a good combo and should match his stall nicely

he is dead set on having completely stock driveability with a h/c/i setup and 400rwhp. Has anyone thought about the TR cheater cam and AFR's with the other mods listed?

My car drives like stock and makes over 400rwhp, anything 228 in duration or smaller (even in the 232 range) and 112 LSA or higher/wider with a proper tune will drive like stock.

Checkout the new TSP 228 camshaft, it makes a little bit more power than the previous 228R camshaft. Combine that with something like the PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 heads, or the PRC 215 heads & you'll have a awesome combo! Here's the dyno sheet comparing the camshafts

If he wants something with Stock driveability, I would go with the cheater head/cam setup. He would maintain stock driveability and achieve his horsepower goals. The setup consists of the AFR 205 heads and our CheaTR or LS2 CheaTR camshaft.

I saw that package awhile back and told him to check into it. His dad owns a circle track performance shop so he can get the heads for pretty cheap so I suggested doing the afr 205's with the cheaTR cam. I know the results that I see on the website are through stock exhaust and manifolds, but does anyone have results with this setup using longtubes and catback? Also were the results through an auto or a manual? How would the cheaTR cam work with my old Vig 3200 that he will be using?

im 99.9% sure its on a m6. m6 makes more hp and thats what shops want you to see to get you to buy it. tell him hp numbers are not ****. they are only a piece of paper with some numbers that look cool.

im not sure the numbers on a full exhaust car but im pretty sure that set up had a fast intake too. i have a 226 with stock heads and put down 340rwhp and im running 12.1 with a 1.8 60ft. my cam drives like stock for the most part too

Here is a graph of a car we did with heads and a CheaTR camshaft. It was a 6 speed car and had a set of the Thunder Racing 1 3/4" Headers and ORY Pipe.
