Cam prices...
Why are LSx off-the-shelf cams so expensive?
You can get SBF or SBC cams all day long on Summit for under $100, but LSx cams are up to $400.
The same companies make them, they have the same amount of lobes...lol

small block chevys and small block fords have also been out for 60+ years. there is a considerable more amount of material on a lsx cam than a standard chevy and the 100 doller cams your talking about are cast whereas most lsx cams are billet. and basically anything to make a buck lol.

As mentioned above you really need to compare them to other roller cams, which are about $300-up. The ones that are really cheap are the flat tappet stuff. I believe that most companies use a billet core for LS cams that is more expensive to produce than the cores used in their other offerings.
But in general parts for gen3/4 engines are a bit more expensive than similar parts for the older design small blocks. This is probably due to new tooling and R&D that goes into producing parts of a different design as opposed to the small block chevy that has been in production for about sixty years. I'm also sure some of it is just capitalizing on the fact that LS engines are a hot item and people are willing to pay big money to get in the game. Maybe we'll be able to get some cheap LS parts somewhere around the year 2040.
