Default How much gain with this cam?

How much of a difference between the two? Are the retainers and springs all i need? This would be for a 01/m6 with lid, headers, stock heads.

always do springs, retainers and pushrods at the least
the smaller cam will be much more fun on the street because of the low end torque the bigger one will be a bit choppier ok low end but will dyno out better on the top end and will et better obviously. maby a 10 hp difference +or- with stock heads.

You do not need retainers. They are reccomended, but only "required" if you are going to be consistently carrying the RPM's past 6500. Pushrods are strongly reccomended, so is a new timing chain, depending on how many miles you have. The bare minimum of things you need would be the cam and springs.

hmm, both of those cams are small, i'd pick up an 03 ls6 cam over the first one and a tr220 114 over the 2nd one. honestly niether of them seem worth the swap :dunno:. i'd recommend the manly spring kit from SDPC2k (sponsor), its 178 and comes with springs rated to .600 (pretty much good for 90% of all cams out there) and tit retainers.

didnt say he had to do retainers and pushrods, but for the added safety at a small price and no extra work i would.

I was looking at the "c1" and "c2" also. But i dont anything that will make the car have a rough idle. How big can i go with good idle?

you can go to 224/224 for sure and not worry about idle, but that will be with a tune. But I recommend a good tune with anything bigger than a Ls6 cam.

That depends on how you define a rough idle and how well you tune the PCM after the cam install. Any 224 cam with fast ramps like the C2 or TR224 will have a pretty decent idle quality IMO, especially if you get it with a 114 LSA. But none of them will idle exactly like the stock cam did.

you will hear a 224 if you know stock idle sound. but most will not notice it if you get a really good tune. also your exhaust will give it away if it is really free flowing and loud

I think you could have a subdued idle from most any cam as long as it would be on a 114 lsa. SLP has some I know. I just got a TSP 231/237 in my car this weekend and all Jayson suggested I buy were rods and springs, no timing chain or retainers. Even when I asked specifically he said not to worry with it.
BTW the springs he suggested were just comp 918's also.

sounds like you are kinda pushin the limits. sounds fine for a daily car but wouldnt go with that on a track car

I wouldn't bother with retainers with cams this small. I'm not using any with my 224/224 .581/.581 112lsa. Anything larger than that (ie. .590 lift+), and I'd think about using them to lower the valvetrain mass.

My cam idles noticable with dumps, x pipe, longtubes. I would think that it'd be semi-tame with restrictive exhaust. My cam has similar stats to the C2 cam. If your looking for very little lope, I'd suggest tr220 114, or mti stealth cam II.

I've got a TR220, you can tell it's there, but only if you know what to listen for.

This is true, but my car as I'm sure with his will probably see the track 4 or 5 times a year tops. So I don't see the need to spend a bunch right now, especially since most never stay "cam only". I planned on adding a set of heads later on next year and they'll have everything already on them anyway. The timing chain would go on then as well.

Thats just my $.02

How bout this one. 207/220 .571/.578 118.5 LSA

Its a smoother idle but will net you close to the 400 mark at the wheels

have a hard time imagining geting 400 out of that cam. thats a very large difference in the intake and exhaust 207/220. 207 isnt much over stock. hardly worth the trouble imo. stock is somewhere around 195/204 i think

actually that cam makes almost 410 in an m6 car and 393 in an a4. its the gt2-3
