408 is definitley a bad *** motor, but If your block is ok, and I'm sure it is, just get a stroker kit(383) with forged rods, pistons, etc. If you are planning on going forced induction, how long down the road will that be because it will play a role in how you are building the engine. A used set of TFS or AFR's along with a nice custom cam could get you your goals of 500whp. For around 5k....maybe

haha yeah the block is scrap aluminum at this point and i am leaning to a 408 most likely ill buy a short block and go from there 408 plus procharger sounds like a beast but also sounds really expensive

don't buy a off the shelf short block. You may spend a little more money but it will be well worth it to have a reputable shop build it. I just completed one for $ 5300 included head studs and head gaskets. Calies crank & rods je pistons with a new lq9 block

A 408 would be a good choice. If your going to go forced induction decide before you choose your pistons.

decide what you are doing in the end for sure before building a block. no point of driving around with a 9.0:1 motor and never putting forced induction on it. I pieced together my d1 kit. It saved me thousands over new but if it's you dd then there is no way this will ever happen. Front mount turbo should be considered if you're serious. Just remember at that power you're going to be spending money on the trans, rear and suspension too...

Without a doubt a 408 would be a great option for the $$$. We have them on special currently!! The 408 is probably the best bang for the buck combo you'll find. You could run any number of head combos with that setup & it will grow very well with you. I've built everything from 600hp 408s to 700hp 408s depending on how aggressive you want to get!!
