Default LS1 iron block?

Sorry, if this has already been addressed; I've looked around and couldn't find exactly what I am looking for!

I am planning on throwing a turbocharged LS1 into an RX-7. I am looking at running high boost (more than 15psi) so I would like to use an iron block. My question is: where can I get one? From my understanding, the LQ4 is basically a 6.0L, iron blocked LS1, is this true? Can parts for an LS1 (low compression stroker) go into an LQ4? Also, what cars/trucks had/have the iron block LS1? Thanks for the help!

Saying its an iron ls1 is a bit of a stretch. They are all the same generation of motors though so much of the stuff is very similar and accessories, heads, intakes, etc can be swapped around.

the lq4 or lq9 6.0 iron blocks are what you are looking for. should be able to get the lq4 for cheaper. lq9 has a bit higher compression due to pistion differences but i assume you'll be swapping pistons anyway. get a motor with 317 heads to help keep the compression down. I have some for sale if you want them

cars don't have them, but the 6.0 trucks do. the gto 6.0 (ls2) is an alum block. they float around on here pretty regularly. depends on whether you want to get a new block or freshen up an old block tho. lots of sponsors could hook you up with a new iron block

My ride has an LQ4 block in it. I used Patriot truck heads that they CNC'd. I push about 900RWHP through a TH400 tranny. Solid base for a Turbo motor. You may just want to look at a sponsor like suggested above for a boost motor.

Why not try the 4.8l with a turbo? One of the truck guys has a turbo 4.8 putting down over 700 rwhp on the stock bottom end...

thanks for the help! I'll for sure look into that. haha and if I wanted something that small I would have ripped the motor out of an STI ;-)

why are you so worried about boost numbers? i would just do a forged 347 (if u already have the block). you can push 6-700hp with that motor. also the iron is about 80lbs heavier. i would keep the ls1 imo

could I still run an LS1 alum head (RHS 54210) on an LQ4 block or would that cause problems?

why would you do that when you can get a 366 from a 6.0 block. theyre about the same price.

and as long as you get a 2001ish and up block, everything is the same as an LS1 except for the head bolts, depending on the year. i believe 2003+ has the equal length head bolts...

i have an lq4 bored .010 over with a 4" crank which makes 404 cubic inches. with forged rods and my mahle forged pistons, it will make around 800rwhp around 15psi

Because all i read was "Iron Block LS1"

And are you saying a 2001+ 6.0 is the same as a 2001+ LS1?

Are the cranks/bearings for LQ4's the same as those for LS1's?
