The statements of the old PRC springs being a wreck after 8K are blind. There are far too many variables to assume that without knowing more about the setup of the valvetrain. The Associated Springs did have more issues than the new springs PRC uses, but the ratio of the number of those springs running without issues at higher mileage to the number of them running with problems, is large!
OP: What springs were they? That's one thing we all cannot guess at, since way too many of the aftermarket springs out there look identical when they're oily like that and with no retainer in the image.

I too ran a set of PRC platinums on a .600 lift cam for 3 years and 48,000 miles .... they were still good when I swapped in a different set of heads.....installing springs at the correct height is very important to say the least ... at this time I have a set of Partriot gold duals that have 50,000 miles on them and they are still performing perfectly.

Both PRC and Patriots are fine. I've used a set of Patriot Golds on a .640 lift cam, and it's still running strong 12,000 miles later...........But I also check install height.
Too many variables to blame it on the springs. Just like Comp 918's. Everybody wants to jump on that bash band wagon. Funny, I've used over 50 sets of them never had one come back broken.

Install height is cricitcal yes but you also have to match your springs to your lobe profiles. There is not a one spring fits all lobe profile... LSL lobes are very agressive and if not setup with the proper springs will not last and beat the **** out of your valve seats.

i have prc springs with a ms4 cam 27k miles. i have not checked the springs but i run the car just about every weekend and it still runs just as strong as it did when i first put the cam in

You check installed height with a installed height gauge. Most springs have a recommended installed height. I personally install my springs .060" from coilbind. Its takes me 4-5 hours with the heads off the car and longer if they are still on the car. Every spring is set up specifically based off of its coilbind height, which changes from spring to spring.
Im running 918s on my personal LSL lobed cam (219/235 .607/.621) with no issues. But I have a well thought out and setup system.

You check installed height with a installed height gauge. Most springs have a reccommended installed height. I personally install my springs .060" from coilbind. Its takes me 4-5 hours, but every spring is set up specifically based off of its coilbind height, which changes from spring to spring.
Im running 918s on my LSL lobed cam (219/235 .607/.621) with no issues. But I have a well thought out and setup system.

I thought the 918's are only rated to .600 lift? That does not sound well thought out at all. Sounds very risky, lets see a dyno graph of the thing pulling to 6500 rpm with no valve float. Not sure how you even have enough open pressure to control that cam. I imagine your springs / valve seats are getting pounded. I don't think any reputable engine builder would recommend 918's on any LSL lobed cam.
I've use 918s on XE-R .612 lifts with no issues, (again shimmed).
Those were not street combos, more like street/strip with frequent checks between shootouts.
It is just that we tried running the lightest moving valvetrain masses we could on a budget and beehives were always winning contenders.

I can also tell you I know I dont have float. I know the sound, the feel, and the affect it has. I wouldnt run somthing that im not 100% sure of. Its all about the system. I have lightweight LS3 valves, light springs, 6 gram retainers, along with a .105" wall pushrod.
