which one? ok... im a senior in high school and i refuse to drive my car in the winter. ( 01 t/a) i also have a 2 hour block of auto so i came up with bright idea to get a cam and install it since i wont be driving it during the winter. no lost time driving it when the weathers nice. but... im having a problem deciding what cam to get. a little back round on the car. it is my daily driver. it has SLP lid, bbk headers, cut out and soon to be 90 mm throttle body and possible ls6 intake. and i was wondering what cam would be best for my car.
here are the 2 cams i am considering. also.. i have a student teacher that says that i can use stock z06 springs with these cams. is that true? i got these off this website.

If your going to get one of those cams with the lift on them in mind they go just a little bit over the max lift of the Z06 springs. You will need to go with a spring that at least has a lift of .600 An also your car being an 01 you should already have an LS6 intake on it. I would be worth your time getting a fast intake. I would stick with the LS6 intake, cause your not running a big cam or proably worried about numbers.
ls6 springs will not work with those. too much lift.
cc918s would work fine.
as for which one is better...both are damn near identical. probably never notice a difference between them. either on the dyno or on the road.
both will tune very well for the street and make good power.
curious...why put a 90mm throttle body on an intake that is only 78mm wide? stick to a ported stocker

As was posted you already have a ls6 intake..a ported TB will work just fine...I make 452/418 with a stock ported & polished TB on a LS6 intake...you will need better springs than the GM C5 Z06 springs ... PAC 1518 springs will be good for either of those cams and they do not have the negitive history that the 918s do...there will be very little difference in the two cams ... good luck with your winter mods....

i didnt think i could use the z06 springs, but my student teacher said i could. but. does anyone recommend a different cam then whats on there? also. im not sure if i have a ls6 intake. i read i think on this website that torward the end of production they started using the ls6 intakes because they ran out of the stock ones. but ill try and find out if its a ls6 or not. thanks for your input

Verdad Gallardo You would be wiser spending the money you were thinking about spending on that 90/90 FAST combo on a set of heads. With bolt ons and heads/cam you can get in the 425 rwhp range and still have a nice driving street car that you can take to the track from time to time.

i dunno. i kinda wanna work my way up not just jump right into the big stuff. the only reason i am doing the cam now is because winter is coming up, and since i wont be driving it, i figured why not do it now while you have auto class? and considering im a senior and only have it for 1 more semester. plus they got all the tools i could possibly need. but back to the real question. would anyone recommend a different cam other then what i put up?
TSP 228 or TR228 That will be a pretty good daily and should be a breeze to tune, plus give you maybe a little more power than the cams you were looking at. An I didn't recall you saying if your an A4 or a M6. If your an A4 your going to need a stall. If you get your heads ported and milled that will help you out also in getting more power.
Any supporting mods like headers etc...? The stalls you are looking at will kind of suck without a stall. Weak bottom and push through the brakes because they need a higher than stock idle.... Might want to go to Thunder Racing site and look at the CheaTR cam...

They are a sponser on the right. TR (thunder racing) and TSP (Texas speed & Performance) You can look into their cam kits. It will come with the cam and get double springs and hardened pushrods for a pretty good deal. Or you can call either and they will help you with your setup or what your looking for. Me personally I would call TSP I've just always dealt with them but TR is good also.
