It seems like I'm hearing a broken LS7/caddy lifters story often(every month?)..I was thinking I should raplace my stock LS1 98 lifters with LS7, but I'll go with morel or old LS1 model to replace if I ever do that..
I dont know if my stock unit are holding that well since 5+years because I'm lucky or I'm running a single 918 spring with a mild 22x cam under 600lift pushing a honest 407 rwhp...plus 3-4 bottles of juice a year...
It sucks op, good luck with your new lifters and go for morels I say!!

I have seen one fail also. But it was installed by a customer and Im betting the preload was not correct. Its a case by case basis. I can say the ratio of failure on OEM style lifters is higher vs Morels in my experience.(This is not in a stock configuration) Thats not to say they can fail but from all the builds I have done from FI to nitrous to na setups I have had very good luck with Morels. They are pricey but I figure they were a good insurance policy. My new 427 with the YSI will take a good beating so we will see how the Morels hold up!

wow! Looks like We are finding the limits of the Hyd Roller Lifter Design "Maybe", Any of you guys in the 240+ area on cam size thought about running sollid roller lifters on tight lash .006-.010 ? we do it in Pontiacs all the time, it works very well, It would mean Adjustable valvetrain though fwiw

I have had a Morel or two bleed down from a sticky plunger but never had them come apart or axles fall out or wheels lock up or fall apart etc. On OEMs I see all of that. Of course there are a million more times OEMs out there to be fair but the Morels have held up great in some absolutely crazy apps that were routinely eating stock lifters.

The new GMPP LSX454 makes 620fwhp @6200 rpms and 590 torque @4800 with the LS7 lifters and it has a pretty good size cam and a warranty.
Valve Lift (in): 0.635" intake / 0.635” exhaust with 1.8 rockers .598 w/1.7 rockers.
Camshaft Duration (@0.050 in): 236° intake / 246° exhaust
Maximum Recommended RPM: 6500
These are Crane lobes and not the most aggressive but still, not too bad.
When GMPP does their testing, they run them at WOT on the dyno for somewhere around 20 hours to validate the parts before they can sell them. Uncle Robin or DrGMPP can chime in to verify.

Yep GM made sure that lobe was a nice stable one as well which will make the rest of the deal live that much longer. Should be fine with that cam as again they researched it out so they don't have to mess with people having issues.

What would cause a lifter to fail, if your on a stock cam? I have single coil pac springs. The rest of my valvetrain is factory. I've already inspected the the rockers and pushrods. The tick I have is definetly too high pitched to be short block, and my oil pressure hasnt moved at all.

You should see what happens when the wheel falls off them, it can take out the whole bottom end.

In stock ready to ship. OEM lifters are not made to withstand the forces seen in a true hi performance engine. RPMS are a killer, its not ust about lobes and spring pressures.

My tick goes away once the rpms climb a bit. From what I've been reading, that should rule out exhaust leaks etc. I'm praying maybe I'll have just a flat roller on one of my lifters, and can just swap it out. The tick also gets more pronounced as the engine warms up and the oil thins. You can barely hear it at all, upon initial cranking.

I do not think there is anything out there that with enough punishment won't break. I do not think that GM made the LS7 lifter or any "stock" lifter to deal with some of the more aggressive lobes we use on cams in our vehicles weather daily drivers or track duty only cars. Before making any blanket statements about product lets see where we went wrong. What did we do and what was our set up and realistically are the parts we are using made to withstand the punishment our set ups are dishing out.
