Default do i need lifters??????

in a week or less i am buying a 228R cam and am going to buy most likely the 1218 springs ( b/c i dont trust the 918's because of there history). and i have heard when you change camshafts you MUST change the lifters. and i would like to know if there is any truth behind this. Thanks

Do you have to? No. Should you? Yes. If your going to be in there you might as well change them.

my teacher is convinced that we can change the cam with just taking the intake off, but im not sure cuz im not the smartest engine guy out there. but if we can get to it from the top them can you get at the lifters from the top too?

You have to take the heads off to get to the lifters. I think your teacher is thinking about old school sbc

How many miles does your engine have? if under 50K they are ok if above 50K then yes. Gaterman Products have the LS1/LS6 Eaton stock lifters for $100 that's what I am using. I shift @6800.
