If you want a nasty cam, there is no way you are going to want to drive it on the stock converter.
Factor in cost of converter which can be anywhere from 500-900$. You are going to want a drivetrain that supports it as well, so there are springs and pushrods (200$+) at minimum there. If you dont plan on installing it yourself go ahead and factor about another 350-500$ there.

When you say "Nasty" do you just want a lopey idle with no go? Or are you looking for nasty as in all out performance and lope is a bi-product from it. Don't get a cam for lope. It will be un-impressive when it gets cut by a stock v6 mustang.

Are you wanting to track this car or just be cool and have a cool sounding car? Hope you have a little money to spend. Seriously, don't go big. Low 230's with a 10° overlap would be as much as I would put up with in that car.

Oh yeah, tuning...$$$$ You will need it at that point. The wilder it gets the harder it will be to tune.

take your time and dont go cheap. i spent a little over a month researching different cams on here. i ended up ordering an ms4 from texas speed last week. the ms4 has a nasty idle, and i hear it makes good power....im about to find out. i started with texas speed, went down the list of cams, typed them in youtube, and looked for cars with similar exhaust setup as mine to get an idea of sound. after looking around i went back and ordered from texas speed.

Those MagicStick cams arent for everyone though. If you have never driven a cammed and stalled car I suggest you do that as well.

All cams cost about the same unless you find one you want used....the money is in the details....springs, push rods, oil pump, retainers, install, and the tune of course...you def dont want to skimp on the tune.

if you are going with a 4k stall i would look for something in the 23x range. itll make great power and be driveable imo. what else is done with the car?? and what are the goals???

Theres some good info to work with there! Sorry I cant comment more I have to head out to work, but you sound like you know what you are after. 4k stall is MS3-4 material right there.

Take a look @ LG Motorsports G5 series cams. I am sure they have something you would like with good driveability. I have the G5X3 on a 114, but maybe you would like it on a 112 for a chopier idle.

...as far as a different LSA goes you will only get +1° more for every one you go down.
like say you have 114 with 16° with a 113 you would have 17° and so on so forth.
