Default High oil pressure question

I did a search and it seems my oil pressure is right in the normal range, but it seems very high on startup.

Just changed the oil and went from 10w30 to 5w30 and put a mobil 1 filter instead of a Fram. Also sea foamed the oil and gas, and put MCCC in the top end before changing the oil. Also, just had the car tuned and dynoed and we went speed density.

Before all of this, when I started it up cold, it would sit around 40psi and even under heavy throttle it would maybe hit 60 max.

After, today when I cranked it up, oil pressure was at 60psi, and while slowly accelerating it would hit almost 75 but didn't peg it. I headed to the interstate within about 5 minutes and crusing at 65-70 it was sitting at right about 60, which I read was normal. After I drove the car about 20 miles, it finally settled down to about 45 at idle, and around 60 cruising. Not even gettin close to touching the psi it did at startup.

My question is everything normal and should it go that high on a cold start? If my oil filter was clogged or something, I figure it would remain really high all the time. My numbers seem normal after its warmed up and driven, I just never saw anything that high on a cold start before I did everything. Thanks.

Actually 40+ psi at cold startup isn't all that great.

Mine idles at 40 fully warm, and about 65 at cold start up.

Be happy, that's awesome pressure, did you use the same type of oil? just 5w instead?

No worries tho, thats perfect, also looks like you do exactly what I do and others do, MCCC on top end and sea foam in gas and oil, just make sure you changed the oil right after you put that stuff in, but I'm sure you did your research, perhaps the better filter helped or it just needed a good cleaning.

Thanks for the reply, makes me feel much better!

Used the same brand oil, mobil 1 synthetic. Just changed from 10w30 high milage to regular 5w30.

Nice, I used to use mobil 1, I switched too Pennzoil Platinum, it's a full synthetic as well, I don't think mobil 1 is, but could be wrong, either is fine tho.

Did you put the MCCC threw that port on the intake/throttle body? I pop off the PCV and attach a 3/8 hose as LS6427 described, it's not that hard to get either, my local dodge dealer has tons of it.

I bet that formie pulls pretty hard, enjoy it

Yeah, I just unplugged my catch can and used the hose from there into the throttle body. Worked like a charm. And yeah, its pulling much harder now

Hey, not to thread jack or anything but I have some questions about my oil pressure. I have a recently swapped L33 and I've clocked maybe 100 miles on this engine. I have a autometer electirc oil pressure gauge and I'm setting at closer to 30 psi on my oil pressure. Under load I get up to around 45psi maybe 50psi, but I've never seen anything higher.

Should I be concerned with this oil pressure? I know I need to change the oil, but I'm running 5w 30 that seems to have some fuel mixed in due to some starting issues when I was trying to get my swap running initally. Apparently I had my ignition coil harnesses plugged in to the wrong sides and the engine wasn't firing in the correct order. From what I understand fuel was leaking into the oil on the missed compression strokes fouling up the oil.

Planned on changing the oil soon, I was just considering treating the oil with seafoam first. Just a little worried about the saftey of seafoam in the engine.

change the oil if it has gas in it immediately then report back. not good to drive with fuel soaked oil at all.
