Default Tuning REQUIRED with cam swap???

Is a tune ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED right after a cam swap. I understand the idle will have to be adjusted. I am looking at the cam packages... TSP 228R cam with .588/.588 @ 114 LSA. comp prc springs and pushrods.

What can i expect WITH OUT a tune? This is on an 04 CTS-V (LS6)

You can expect the car to not want to idle worth a ****, run very rich at idle, and lean in other area's.

If money is tight, then hold off on the cam swap until you have enough money saved to get a tune afterwards.

I would at the least get a mail order tune from tunedbyfrost.com

If not you will have a funny driving Caddy at stop lights and signs.

As others have said the car will run, but run horribly. Best thing to do is give the guys over at TSP a call, they will give you the rundown on the importance of the tune in detail. Even if the car is driveable, you arent gaining much with the cam except more noise until you do have it tuned

Car will have problems idleing and it might stall out a few times especially when coming to a stop. You can drive it untuned, just remember it won't perform as well and be as driveable as with a tune. TSP does offer mail in tuning and the cam you have is by no means radical, so I am certain they could get the tune very close for half the price of a dynotune.

It will have serious driveablity problems, run lean at WOT, and probably have a short life if you have a heavy foot.

Listen to the people. Even just boltons will screw with your ratio enough to risk long term engine reliability. It's just not worth it.

out of tune maybe running rich can wash down the cylinders ,losing compression wasting the block .be patient get it tuned rite away, prevent any damage to the engine.

Understood fellas. I just didnt know how much time i had. I was looking at mail order tunes already. Just dont know how close in parameters they can get it without having "live" data. there is no .bin files for EFILive and trying to see if HP Tuners already has a file for the cam i want to install.

You have to listen to those who have been there. Also I would not even come close to driving that car close to red-line. You can run a very good chance of completely leaning out and thrashing your engine.
