^^^For stock, SMOG apps, it's not the best thing to do. I ran breathers to help alleviate some of the internal pressure of the engine (instead of installing an expensive vacuum pump) at the time. It was by NO means a stock big block.

Because the PCV is what vents that **** out of the crankcase. A 160* t-stat can also caues this because the h2o that is a byproduct of combustion never gets hot enough to vaporize and exit via the pcv. I run a 160* stat in summer and a 185* in winter for this very reason....

^^^Good explanation! Makes sense. What t-stat (in terms of degrees) comes stock on the LS1? I'm just curious.

using a breather cap on a stock application is using 1960's technology on your car the pcv "sucks" blow by, gasses and burns them

I used to get that **** when i first bought the car. After changing out the PCV valve it went away within an oil change or two. Direct correlation? Maybe not but what happened happened. Also, the guy who owned it before me drove the car all winter long. I garage the car starting in November and don't take it back out until the snow is pretty much all gone in April/May so that may make a difference as well.
