Default What is this broken part?

I'm installting a new intake manifold. After removing the stock one I found what I think is a broken sensor at the back of the engine block. Don't know if it was already that way or if I broke it removing the manifold but I figure it needs to bre replaced. I don't know what I'm looking for. Anyone know what this part is called? One photo is from LS1Howto the other is a photo I took. You'll note that the sensor is kind of leaning over.

I don't really see how so many people break it. I wasn't even being cautious when I removed the intake on my LS1, and didn't harm it in any way. I didn't even see it, or know where it was at until I got the intake completely out of there. lol

I wish I had your luck, or at least smaller hands. I think I broke the unit when I swung the manifold to the side so I could get to the MAP sensor behind the manifold. What was GM thinking when they put it there anyway!

GM was thinking...the harder they make it, the more money dealerships make because people cant work on it themselves.

the first thing i do is pull the vacuum line out of the brake booster so it doesnt catch on the OPSU. that way i can pull the intake out far enough to unplug the MAP sensor and HVAC vacuum line without breaking the OPSU. the brake booster vacuum line catching on the OPSU is what breaks them usually.

I bet you're 100% correct. I didn't disconnect mine until the last step. In fact, the web site I was reading tells me in the instructions to disconnect the hose much earlier in the process. They don't say why, just to do it. Maybe it would have helped to clue us in what could happen.

And YES I do agree with you. It looks to me, so many cars are much harder to work on these days forcing people spend more money in the shops for repairs or maintenance.

rockauto has an AC Delco (or supposedly) for $30 plus shipping but it looks like it could be delayed up to 5 days because they don't stock it.

i think what car manufactures dont realize, is just because the cars are harder to work on, doesnt mean people wont work on them. and some people will screw things up forcing them to take it to the dealer and spend more money fixing what they messed up than they would have just taking it there in the first place. then you have people like us here on tech that will tear something apart, either mess it up or do it right, but one way or another, we will find tips, tricks, faster ways and advice along the way to make it smoother.
