I had this cam in my old f-body and no flycutting was needed with stock heads.

I know is a pain in the *** and I had a 232/238 600/600 and even though I still measured ptv its a way to make sure that "YOUR" set up is correct.

Like they said, it's always a good idea to check and can save you alot of headache if for some reason the cam is installed off a tooth and the like. But, with a stock long-block and correct install, you should have plenty of room with the 233/239!

When the car was dynoed, the stock clutch was slipping and I did not have an UDP. I believe it was in the low 390 rwhp range despite the above. Definately a good cam, sounded insane too. Here is a clip of mine when I had it.

I have a very similar cam, 234/238

...but, I'm running it in a stroked 383 LS6 block. With all supporting mods and a good non-slipping clutch, i put down 500 rear wheel HP!

But, based on "what i have read" I thought a 224/224 was basically the largest cam to be installed into a stock long block with stock heads, without the need to fly cut.

I measured my setup, with aftermarket JE pistons with reliefs (AFR 205 heads), and I'm pretty close on the PTV tolerances.

So definitely measure your setup!

I am thinking about switching to this cam as well. Should it be ok with my set up? My heads aren't ported, they are stock 799's.

I run the 233/239 in a stalled auto, I had TSP do a mail order tune, and they did fairly well. The car idles a little high, and has some surging issues every once in a while. Thats why my computer should be arriving at Frost's in the next day or two. I put in the Yank SS 4000 in Feb., and its not shifting right, and I'm hoping Frost can do away with some of the surging.
I'm running tis cam with Dart non ported heads and I didn't have to fly cut the pistons. I went from a Comp 224/224- 581/581, and wish I would've got the 233/239 first. I really like this cam with my setup.

ive been really considering about stepping up to a bit more cam as well, just because my car is not really a daily driver. i have the X1 230/227 591/571 112 and it drives soooo smooth its crazy. Defintiely a great for a fun little street car. I am considering the 233/239 cam from TSP as well. It will probably be the largest cam i would run though.
