243/799 or L92 heads are a good fit for a 408 LQx block. If money is tight I would suggest buying some stock 243's off of an LS6 Vette or a LS2 GTO or Vette and upgrade the springs for whatever cam you decide on to get you started. Then later you can take them off and have them ported when you have the extra cash. Its just an idea I've been looking at if I start to go low on $ for my build.

These are videos of someone who took the stock top end off of a LS1 346 and put it on his 408. It was choking the motor so bad that even at wide open throttle it still had a vacuum.
