Going for a big cam..which one?
I've done a lot of research on this, but can't decide. I am staying stock headed for a good while, but I still want a monster cam. I kind of have my heart set on the TSP 231/237 112 lsa, but probably because I can find the most info on that one. What about the G5X-2 and 3? I know these are harsher on springs, but with Crane duals would I be OK? I am also staying with the stock 3.42s until they break. The powerband on the TSP seems pretty good, even for street driving. I will be doing a mix of street/strip/autoX. Down low as long as it pulls as hard as stock I'll be happy, but 2700-3000 on up I want it to scream. I have heard SouthFL02SS's clip of him hammering it in gear and I can hear the car bog a bit before it comes up on the cam in 2nd gear, I'm guessing I would see a similar thing with the X2 and X3 cams? Are there any other big cams to consider? Basically I want your guys' opinions on why or why not to go with the 231/237 as opposed to another. I don't want to regret not going bigger, but I don't want a cam that isn't driveable powerband-wise on the street.
Thanks..
Thanks..

I'm running the TSP231/237 with my stock 3.42's and it isn't too bad. I can cruise along at 55 or 60mph in 6th gear and it doesn't buck. You MUST realize that there is NO way you can run a cam this big comfortably with a stock tune. Jason from TSP did my tune via "mail order" and has it pretty close, it still lacks a little on "tip in" but all in all, I'm very satisfied with the driveability of it..heck my wife even drives the car now and then and doesn't bitch about it!!

How much that has to do with the cam's powerband I dunno. I'd think it's more to do w/ me letting up a little on my right foot to regain traction.

That makes me even happier..that thing just sounds mean when you hammer it.
Yes, I realize that I will need a tune. SouthFL, are you happy with how much it lopes on the 112 LSA? Sounds pretty good to me.. That 107 LSA is getting pretty crazy, but cool.
I'm thinking I'll stay away from the G5s because of the spring issue. I'm sure that they are ok now (REV springs) and I know that they do break, but I think I like the idea of the big cam on the XE lobes for now. Just peace of mind about the springs I guess. I'm figuring that the X2 and X3 would only be giving me 5-15 more HP anyway with stock heads.
What is the ICL on the TSP 231.237?
Thanks for the help guys..keep going!

I don't think the TSP 231/237 is going to be signifigantly easier on springs than an X2 or X3, definitely not enough to justify the power loss, IMO. Giving up 5-15 rwhp on a cam only car is signifigant, especially for no more $$$. At 400 rwhp and up, 5+ rwhp gets harder and harder to come by.
Get the X2 or X3 on 114. I have heard the X2 on a 114, and it was less radical (idled better and smoother) sounding than my 230/224 was when you heard it.
