advice on 224/224 or 224/230
I have heard that the 224/230 is very daily drivable with a good tune, and has more of a lope . I am choosing between these two cams, any advice or experience is appreciated.

I have a 224/230 with PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads and with that combo I ran a 12.02 at 119.7 and I am not the best driver when it comes to six speeds. I also still have the stock LS1 intake and its untuned. As far as the drivability it is great even being on a 111 LSA.

If I did my math correctly, the 224/230 will give you 3 degrees more of overlap than the 224/230. Thats a pretty wide split for stock heads (if that is what you have).
If you want more lope and overlap, how about a 224/226 110+2. That is ~5 degrees of overlap. As long as you have a free-flowing exhaust you can handle up to ~6 degrees of overlap on stock heads (IMO). With heads and additional CR, you can do a lot of things.
But, to answer your question directly, I do not see an advantage to a 224/230 with your current set-up. I would stick with the 224/224 112 or try a 228/228 112, if you want an additional 10-15 HP.

That will work.
Don't be afraid to look at lower LSA's if you want a little more lope and overlap. A 224/228 110+2 gives you a solid ~6 degrees of overlap. That would pump up your DCR..I have not tried that cam on stock heads, so do some more research on it.
Just a suggestion..

To the OP. He is right. I would just keep an open mind, whether it is LSA, split cams etc. You can get to your goal in many different ways. Ultimately you may be only talking about tweaking a 10-15 HP difference, or how long you can carry your HP curve. But, that is important, so good luck in your pursuit.

i would go with atleast a 228r style cam...there are several sponsors here that have a version of one. I started with a 224 cam and it was cool but i wanted more, and now i have an ms4..if i were you i would go with a cam in the 230s range seems to be a happy medium as far as low end and high rpm power..Something like torquer v2 or v3 from texas speed..just my .02

i am very happy with my 224 230 581 592 @114. The car has perfect street manners and consistently goes 12.0 12.1 with my setup n/a. I put the same came in a 6.0 gto and the owners exact words were " wow it feels like im spraying it with nitrous and im not" Its not a huge cam but it performs well.
