Default Gen III Engine Builder on the East Coast

Any suggestions for a good engine builder within about 500 miles of Washington DC? Prefferably someone with the facilities to dyno the motor before installation...

There is a good builder here in MD and a good F-Body shop that can R&R the motor and take it to the machine shop. No out of car dyno, but they can dyno and tune the car after the motor is in.

Go to fbodycentral.com to get started. Are you a member of the Eastern F-Body Association? There are a great number of us nearby you that are really into F-body's. When you get to fbodycentral.com, click on the forum link and check out our board!

Jason, the owner of F-body Central, and his crew at FBC really know their stuff - they are moving to a new and bigger shop soon, hopefully their number will stay the same. Give them a call.

Thanks, I've heard a bit about FBC- and used to be active on EFA, but haven't had the time lately.. I have a feeling finding just an engine dyno for an LS1 is going to prove difficult.

We have numerous customers from the DC/Baltimore area that come up to us. We're about 300 miles or so.

We have the ability to do before and after dynos with the motor in. We also do full custom ls1 edit tuning. We also have another shop we use that we could dyno the motor before installation

Our labor charges are very competitive, if you buy the parts from us too we can give you a better deal overall. We will be able to beat any of our competitor's in the area on engine building.

We're currently moving into a new shop by mid january.. We could have you in for a motor job as early as top of February. Depending on what you are looking to do, it would probably take 3 weeks or so.

We have a few returning customers that want to come up from Baltimore/DC area to have some work done, so maybe you could car pool with them if you want to come up.

Let me know what you are looking for. PM me details and I can get back to you asap.

- Matt

So you can sell them the same banged up, f*cked up stuff you sold me? Then never returned my PM's over on LS1.com or any of the 3 messages I left on your 'shop' phone.

I wouldn't recommend your shop to anyone Matt, you have proven to me, to be unprofessional and unresponsive.

In the DC area, F-Body central is the place to go.

If you are willing to travel, you can see there are some good choices. I've seen stuff from East Side & More at the track, so I would consider those.

Mikey at Rapid also does motor swaps. I don't know if he works with a builder or not.

I don't know if your decision has been made yet but ESP (East Side Performance) has done all my work and I made 420 RWHP and 420 RWTQ through full exhaust a TH400 and a 12-bolt w/ 4.10's and big axles...Been to the track only 3 times and have already run 11.56 with only about ten passes on the car and that's with a bad 60 ft that I haven't worked out yet. Hope this helps good luck...By the way the car weighs about 3550 with me in it!

www.rapidmotorsports.com

We build engines and also have access to an engine dyno if that is your desire. We also do turn key installations and tuning. We are in Reading, PA. PM or e-mail me with any questions.

Give Joe D. a call at JD's Auto & Performance. He is located in Huntingdon Valley PA. JD should be able to get you between 450 and 470 RWHP. JD can also tune/dyno your car. He is a sponsor and here is his link... http://www.jds-high-performance.com/

My car (from SC) will be dynoed early next week and I will let you know how it goes. Give JD a call and tell him that George Culli said "Hi!"

Just a quick on. East Side is a great place, stand behind EVERYTHING they do.
They are doing my motor, and they have all that you need right in house.
Good luck.

I would definately give Cartek a call. They have a ton of experience and success building LS1 engines, from 346 to 427 and bigger. Aluminum (and resleeved), Iron, C5-R, you name it and they've done it. They are a talented group of guys and have great relationships with some big resources in the industry. You won't have to worry about the job being farmed out all over the place. Everything is done under one roof, from the assembly to the tuning.

I'll throw in a data point for Mikey at Rapid Motorsports. I bought the powertrain from an '01 TA he had previously done a cam swap and some other work on (swapping it into my project car).

Mike was willing to spend time talking thru the work he had done on it w/ me over the phone, even though I wasn't his customer. Very cool of him.

Tearing down the valvetrain for upgrade to dual springs, the quality of his workmanship is visibly excellent. Valvestem seals were on the right valves (orange ones on exh, black ones on intake), no RTV slop on the timing cover gasket, no nicks or dings anywhere. This guy pays attention to detail.

I also here good things from rapid customers. he sounds good. Never been, But this area he would be a good choice i think. Im working with ESP, but Either place would do the job well im sure, just depends on driving distance i guess.

First of all, a reciever cannot file a damage claim with UPS. ONLY the shipper can. Unfortunatly, all of my attempts to contact TTP (since thats who took my credit card number) went unreturned.

the heads were fine when the left here they came off a running low milage car so you dont know what your talking about if you thought they were new then you read wrong
They were thrown in a box together with no protection. They arrived in terrible, unusable shape without major resurfacing and repair on the gouged areas. Here are the pics that I posted on LS1.com

Other than resizing, these are the pictures I took about 2 minutes after I opened the boxes. The sealing surfaces are pretty much useless as is.

TTP posted the For Sale ad on LS1.com (and here as well), TTP took the call, TTP processed the credit card, TTP sent junk. Wanna sue me? Fire up the Attorneys, I'm all for it, the first defense to libel (slander is spoken, not written bud) is the truth. Where have I lied?
