Default 5.3 build

I'm looking for everyone's opinion on what exactly i should do to my 243 heads.

5.3(stock bottom end and bore)
243 Z06 heads with double springs (also stock)
BBK SSI intake
28.8 injectors
228/230 588/592 112 LSA
LT ORY
3200 Circle D

This is going into my truck and is going to be a daily driver, it will see the track but not very often. Any suggestions welcome.

i have the almost exact setup. stock 5.3, 243 heads, 224/228 .581/.588 cam, with a fast 90. i shaved my heads .030 which makes the 243's have a 59cc chamber and used a .040 head gasket to get my compression up.

How does the engine run? I'm looking to build something similar.

What style 5.3L pistons do you guys have?

I want to slap my 97' ls1 heads on the 5.3L bottom end. I'll probably use the stock ls1 cam as well.

Are the connecting rods the same for the ls1 vs the 5.3l?

853 heads are 66 CC as where the 243s are 64 CCs. So those two heads are completely different.

I know but it should be similar correct? I could shave the heads down a little and use a 4.8L piston to make it higher compression right?

The 4.8 pistons will raise compression but the 853 heads flow about 227 CFMs at .600, the 243 flow 259 CFMs at .600. But you should be able to mill the heads and use those pistons and run a decent compression. But 862 heads that come on a 4.8 are just as good as the 853s with a better CR.
