Default 799 heads

I can get a set of these for a good price but would it be worth rebuilding them and sending them to a shop to get rebuilt or just buying new heads from texas speed? any input from someone that has tried this route would be appreciated

You could proably get them Port and Polished and Milled through TSP or TEA both I hear are very good. Don't know the price but you will have to call either to find out.

I would just polishe them up your self like in the intake and exhaust ports throw a set of new springs, retainers all the neccesary hardware and you'll be fine. with these heads stock with a thinner then stock head gasket (have to make sure your cam will alow) you can gain 50+ hp at the wheels. good luck. in case you were wondering these heads flow just as good as a set of LS6 head 243 castings.

I don't think you are going to see 50 rwhp on stock non-ported 799s. But 15-20 is more plausible.

I disagree with the thinner head gasket you will increase compression 50 hp is defenitly possible. stock c5 with ls6 heads vs stock ls1 with the same ls6 intake makes 385 vs ls1 325 so it is very possible to gain 50+ with this kind of a setup and proper tuning

If you can afford it, get them ported. Theres a hand full of shops that do a good job for a reasonable price.

That being said you will not gain 50 hp from stock 799s and a thinner gasket. Maybe 50 from ported and milled heads, but even then, thats alot of power.

You ask about a cam, give TSP a call, they might could work something out for you.

so the heads are worth porting? how much does that cost on average? if im looking at this right i might end up spendin near a grand or more to do just heads and then i might as well do a cam and thats roughly a 700$ job so after nearly 2 grand wouldnt i be better off with a sponsors package (if ya know what i mean)?
