Default car wont stay running after motor install

Working on a 2000 vETTE. iRON BLOCK 408. Just installed a new motor after the old one spun a main bearing. Ive checked everthing, and when I crank up the car it imediatly dies. If I crank itg up and hold the throttle open a bit its runs, but the second I let off it stalls. And ideas..

Thanks in advance for your help..

Ok, update time. I double checked EVERYTHING. So, I started the car and help the RPMs up to about 2000 for about 5 minutes, till the car got to operating temp. Then I slowly let off, and...... damn, it stayed running. Not sure what the deal was. I didnt change anything. Im thinking maybe the computer needed to relearn the fuel trim.... But so far so good. Thanks guys. All of your help was awesome..

Thanks bro. Yeah, Im kinda hooked on nitrous. I love boosted cars as well, but something about hitting a little bitty button and kicking some a$$ makes me smile.

well just saw your post, i was going to say that the computer needed to relearn the fuel / air ratios. any way any time the battery is disconnect for long time the computer erases itself. learned that when my battery died and had the battery remove for a while. took about 1min to 2 and all was fine. have fun with new power!

So, saying that, do you mean that my tune is erased. So, I shouldnt even drive the car.... That cant be right.

No, hes saying when the power is disconnected for an extended period, or you unhook the battery, the ECU takes awhile to figure out/recalibrate all the sensors input. So the car will die and have trouble staying running for a little while while it recreates a baseline.

Ok, well then saying that, since the car ran well before the old motor was pulled, it should come around (relearn itself) and run fine now correct. The new motor, is identacle to the old motor, just freshened up a bit. I only ask, because Ive been trying to drive it, and when its cold it wont stay running without me holding the rpms up..

Sounds like it needs a retune. Try adjusting the throttle stop in a bit to help the idle air control motor have a little more control when cold.

your car is fly-by-wire, yes? the ecm probably just needed to relearn the idle strategy-this can take a while if the throttle body/plate is dirty-you may take a look and clean it out if thats the case. i'm sure its fine now, just a sign that it might be dirty.

Something I didnt mention, sorry, this may be the issue. But, Im getting a P0103 HC code. Is this the cause of my cold start idling issue.....????
