Nastiest custom grind cam for 346
What do you guys think would be the nastiest sounding cam for say a full bolt-on 346 with ARP rod bolts? Stock 243 heads/gaskets. Keeping lift around .650-ish. I'm thinking 250+ duration and a really tight LSA. The engine will only be used for a few thousand miles probably while a bigger one is being built. Just wanna go as crazy as I can on the little motor until a stroker is dropped in.

whats cams are they? AZP is under now, the 02 was the hellion, or streetsweeper? Ive made over 430whp with the street sweeper on stock heads, I think is the most. same for the hellion.

64.5° of overlap.....GOOD LORD. That cam would sound like the car shut off in between open/close. You would have to have the idle set to 2300 just to keep it alive. That has to be a solid roller. I doubt its a hydraulic.

Here's a nasty one for you 247-259 .624/.624 108 +3 48.5 IVC comp LSL lobes. Anything much over .600" lift is going to be a waste with LS6 heads. This should scream out to 7000 + rpm no problem.

haha I don't think that cam would really even get started until 7000 rpm in a 346!

LMAO! A custom cam for your car is not one your going to find already ground !!
Thats why its custom.. you take all your cars specs and the application intended.. mix in your personal driving habits and then spec a cam to suite.. thats how you buy a custom cam...
NOT by everyone and their mother voting for what they did and thinking its best because they did it
Get the trex if all your looking for is hi rpm playtime.

You don't wanna go too big, otherwise it's gonna be just that. Big, loud, and useless. Do you have an A4? Is it stalled? All this info goes into what kind of cam you should get. Also what kind of valve springs do you have? You don't wanna go that big without some double springs at least.
Some sick sounding cams are the Magic Sticks.. (MS3/MS4) Torquer cams, and Thunder Racing has several you might wanna look at:

Look at the notes under each cam on TR, it should let you know whether or not you can handle it.

They are two custom grinds. I know the guy who came up with the cams and Ed actually grinds them out for him. The cams are bad *** I would suggest any one to try them out. the 2 for an A4 or the 3 for an M6. Now they are not end all to be all but they are very good at what they are made for and I was skeptical at first because I question everything but I am a believer. Again you do not hear to much about these cams because they are custom. Ed is the only one that has the specs apart from the original guy who came up with the cams and he won't even come close to reviling specs until the cam is paid for and after is ground.

can't go too crazy unless you flycut...
no flycutting I vote trex but make sure to check ptvc...also largest or nastiest doesn't always mean the best gains...
mine is 239/243 lsl lobes...basically new era ms4 without the crazy intake lobes/lift

Seriously talk to Allan Futral, he has been running solid rollers in LS1s since before adjustable rockers!

For the OP - Really large cams are like a really large dick: it all sounds good on paper, and its cool when you first get it going, but then you realize it's worthless for just about everything....
A cam in the 230's with the right valve events will do everything well without being such a pain in the *** to setup, tune, drive in traffic, etc. Since you are measuring the use in miles, this doesn't sound like a track only car.

I haven't even picked up a car yet, just tossing around ideas as to what to do to the stock engine when I get one when I get home from Kuwait..it'll be an A4 car with a 4000ish stall and gears. I've heard the MS4 in a buddies car and a Trex, and liked my FM15 I had. Just wanting to get the nastiest sounding cam I can throw in the stock engine til it either blows or I get a new engine built and ready to throw in. I was wondering about miles on different springs because it'll get driven a few days a week, not a daily driver by no means though. But if I can get springs that'll last a while..that'd be better in the long run because I can throw them on the new engine when it goes in..depending on how different the setup will be.
I think I'll probably go solid roller, might talk to Allan and maybe a few other sponsors and see what they think as far as both combinations are concerned. I want to go with a 408 or 427 with either a F1 or a high compression N/A motor.
