Default Low oil light.. i dont have low oil..

infact after adding a little more i prolly have a good 6qrts in there now.

It popped up yesterday, reseting the pcm makes it go away and until you stop ad start her up again it wont come back.

I'm not getting any problems w/ it expect that annoying little light on the dash which is one of my biggest pet peeves about my camaro.

Should i try an oil change maybe? Last one was maybe 500miles ago.. used 10w30 instead of the normal 5w30.. Only been using mobil 1.

Or instead of potentialy wasting time and money w the change should i try to change the oil lvl sensor?

Also with the sensor i have no clue where or how much of a pain it will be to swap it. Any referance material i can use?

Mods are in sig..

Thanks!

If it says low oil, replace the sensor in the pan, if it says change oil, reset the light.

The check oil light in the GTO means low oil pressure... ask me how I know.

It may be a pressure thing instead of a level thing, in which case, I would get it fixed immediately - and before I drove it anymore.

Its not pressure, everything is absolutley fine. Just giving me the light. on the plus side the autozones here have the sensor instock so ill grab one today or tommarow and toss it in on monday.

Also not check oil light its the low oil one on the top left side of the dash.

ok...

changed the sensor.. no luck..

its not even like its insta on but more like.. if you reset the pcm drive around dor however long *did a 90miles trip* it'll be off till you start the car up again...

Gonna try an oil change... if that dosent do it then im pulling the damn bulb...

also will just unplugging it get rid of the light?

Try jumping the connector on the oil level sensor in the pan. Terminal A to B will close act like closing the switch and should turn it off. Try checking the connector from the level switch to the PCM to see if you have a wire that has too much resistance i.e. getting too hot on long trips.

no i never thought of that lol mine is completly full now with adding the oil yesterday and the light is still on. the next dry day we have here i'm goin to jack the car up and look and the sensor to see if anything is a miss, i'll change the oil and filter later this week (i doubt this will do much but i'll give it a shot) and if the light is still on i'll replace the sensor after looking at the wires. that sensor is 10 years old and has been run for 173K so i'm not expecting it to last forever

You can order a new harness by itself for a few bucks. I tore mine out going over some debris in the road and had to replace the connector. Easy fix.

I believe it came with crimp connectors covered in shrink tubing, but I chose to solder mine in anyway.
