Default Good heads for low lift cam?

OK, let the bashing begin! But I am just wondering if there are any heads that would match up well with a low lift cam lift GM's hotcam or ASA cam. Would ported LS6 heads (milled a bit) be a good option? Or am I wasting my time and money...

Thanks.

Good question. I'd be interested in the answer also.

P.S. The Colonel should be along shortly.

If I were you I would probably go with either Absolute Speed(check out their new CNC heads!), TEA, or Patriot 5.3 heads. I really don't think that ported LS6 heads would do much with a lower lift cam like a hotcam. I would take the extra money you were going to spend on the LS6 heads and get an electric water pump, some good headers, or maybe even some spray.

Yeah, the water pump idea will yield about 6-7 hp from what I've been reading, my headers are fine, and I'm trying to avoid the spray (stop tempting me!)

The Absolute Speed Stage 1X seem pretty good for my needs. "recommended for cams under .550 lift" They are $1200 with comp 918 springs.

Sorry but if your gonna get a head go ahead and get the Stage II and leave yourself some room to grow. Check out The Absolute Heads. My 5.3l Stage II's flow 306CFM Intake at .550 lift

This is exactly what I don't understand:
If the "higher" stage heads yield better flow numbers, why not always go with the "higher" stage heads. Are their any compromises when using a smaller cam with a better flowing head (besides the fact that the cam is not getting the most out of the head).

In other words: would a stage 3 head be WORSE in any way than a stage 1 head with a low lift cam?

Thanks for the info.

Most stage 3's have bigger runners for strokers, so that is something to stay away from, you don't want too big of a runner for your application. As long as mid lift numbers aren't sacrificed get the next step up as long as port volume isn't too big. In other words from a stage 1 to a stage 2 if port isn't siginificantly bigger then go stage 2 as long as mid lift numbers aren't lost.

How about Patriot's 5.3 Stage II heads. Texas Speed sells them for $1295 with no exchange! Almost seems to good to be true...

Oh yeah, and how are "patriot springs" and valves?

I'm running the patriot springs and valves with my TSP231/237 cam which has LOADS more lift than the ASA cam you were thinking about. I've got about 4,000 hard miles and several dyno sessions on them and not a peep out of them.
