I got my El Torro dyno tuned today. 404hp/368tq I was hoping for at least 400 hp but I also hoped for a little more torque. I guess it's not bad for only running LS6 intake, stock 243 heads milled .028, pacesetters with catted y pipe with 3.90 gears and a six speed. The tuner didn't care for the cam. He thought it would make more power with its specs. He did say if you didn't know what the dyno numbers were you would swear it makes more power than what it does.

The El Torro hype needs to end. It's not a very impressive cam, and not of the cars I've installed it in make an amount of power worth even posting on the internet. It makes a decent TQ curve, but that's about it.

And FWIW, this is no discredit to Predator. He is a knowledgeable guy and knows his valvetrain stuff well. I'm just not a fan of the cam. It's never impressed me, nor has the driveability.

Well now, thanks for that lovely input. A cam doesn't have to have huge numbers to perform good.

To an extent, yes it does. A 390hp car isn't going to automatically outrun a 420hp car just cause the internet has feel good sayings like "dont worry about dyno #'s".

i could have sworn i seen predator Z suggest 2 different cam specs for the El Torro? Ive seen the 230/230 and the 230/228 that made sick power.

It was actually a 230/234 designed for a car running cats that needed more exhaust bias. I have one out of my old 346 that will be posted up in the classifieds in a day or two. It made 417/383 through a stalled a4 and PRC 5.3's.....

I'm kicking myself for not sending my heads out and getting them P&P before I put them on.

Not bad numbers. I drove in a car with it and the bottom end felt great. Like your car before it was not tuned so there was some bucking and erratic idle when cold.

I have the el-torro cam and my car runs great and it's not even fully tuned!!! I did mine as a 230/232 because i knew i would be putting better heads on at some point in time. The extra 2 deg of duration on the exhaust would help with removing the exhaust gases. My car has just been tuned on the street by me and a buddy and has ran a best so far of 11.84 at 114.5. My buddy who did the tuning has only tuned his car which is just a bolt on car so by no means did either one of us know what we were doing. It still has some little bugs to work out but i am very happy with the cam and beat up on a guy with a MS4 cam also.

That's a good time 11.84. I could handle getting into the high 11's. I almost want to have it dynoed again. I pulled the 80 series flowmaster off last night and drove it with open exhaust. Holy crap what a difference. It lit the tires up all through first and got sideways when I went to second. It never broke them loose in second like that. It sounds sweet dumping over the back axle. I need a different muffler. I'm thinking of putting an SLP loudmouth res back there and see what it sounds like.

I loved the way mine sounded with the muffler off and dumped just over the rear end. I think I'm going to get a LM1 res and slide it on.
