Default Comparing stock cams (low end vs high end)

I'm in a racing class that requires stock internals. So comparing the 98-00 cam vs the 01-02 with all else equal (LS6 intake, headers, no AIR or EGR, etc.) which cam is better down low? I'm assuming the 98-00 cam is better up top... correct?

Stock LS1 cam '98-00:
202/210 intake/exhaust degrees duration
.496/.496 inches lift
116 LSA

Stock LS1 cam '01-02:
198/197 intake/exhaust degrees duration
.478/.478 inches lift
115 LSA

Yes, the '01 and up cam is supposed to be better down low. I have personally never seen an '01 + motor with a pre '01 cam in it but I have heard the 202/210 cam will make about 5 more peak RWHP. It would be interesting to see if there would actually be any significant low end losses switching to the 202/210 from yours. My internally stock '99 made 300 RWFTLBS @ 2000 RPM with an LS1 intake and FLP LTs through cats, so the 202/210 is no slacker down low either.

Man get the LS6 cam or the GT3 LPE stealthy cam and no one have to know LOL. If u ask which one would i choose between the cam u listed i would go with the 98-00 cam. Im sure it will make more power down low and up top too.

that is what I heard as well... (do not know for sure), but when the 01-02s put the LS6 Intake on it they reduced the CAM to try to keep them somewhat even to the 98-00s, but still rated it at 5 more HP

I would run the 98-00 cam because the extra lift and duration are worth more than the 1 degree tightening of the LSA on the 01 cam to tune for no egr (NoX control) The gains in power on 01 was from LS6 intake, not cam spec changes. It would be great if you could run 02 LS6 cam since it has GM part#

This is what I was hoping for as well, I have an '00 and I was so bummed when I heard of the slight upgrades with the '01 cars and hoping that the addition of an LS6 intake would take me slightly beyond the level of the '01/'02 models because of the slightly more aggressive specs on the '98-'00 cam...for I'm planning on remaining stock internal for now as well.

I'm still curious about the bottom end, but reading the top end is only worth 5hp, interesting.

I agree, the 98-00 cam is better for performance.

I know it isn't what your looking for, but from what I have seen the LS-6 cam sucks down low. As for low-end power, I too would want the earlier cam. I thought the cam specs he posted looked right???
