Whats the best swap for my 3rd gen?
I have an 86 camaro with the 2.8 i'm looking to do a swap to something much bigger and faster. i want more than a 350. i dont want to have the same thing that everyone else has done. im looking for all motor as well to start. i've looked at the 383 396 427 and 454. im looking to build it from the ground up as well. whats the best route to take. ive had some tell me to just go with an ls

I guess that would depend on a million different things.
1. What do you want from it? Do you have a horsepower or ET # that you're after?
2. Usage? Street, strip, roadcourse, etc?
3. Budget?
4. Your abilities? Can you fabricate motor mounts, crossmembers & exhausts, or are you reliant on aftermarket bolt-in type stuff?
This and a million other factors will have a huge impact on what might suit you best.

well i have plenty of time to do this. im not in any rush. ill do this piece by piece if i have to. it definately will not be a daily driver. basically still wanna be able to drive to car meets and stuff the track here and there. im looking for like 600+ hp and the torque to match. this car is more pride and joy than anything but i still wanna have fun with it. if i taker it on the track i want the front end to lift off the ground if i want to. i want g force. but as i said i would like to build it up myself and i have plenty of time

None of them, Ive got a lil' 565 down here that makes 900+ HP and will have no problem bringing the front wheels off the ground !
Heres it workin in our 86 IROC we recently sold...

Haha, im jp. I would get an LQ4/9 and do L92 style heads, nice cam, and either carb or fuel injection and roll from there. Would make 600 HP with the right setup.

if you're looking for big power naturally aspirated, cubic inches are your friend. When you start getting real big, I think a big block is going to be more cost effective than an LS based motor.
But in either case, if your priority in all of this is just to pop wheelies, save yourself a ton of cash and go buy a dirtbike.
