I t all depends on what your goal is. Do you want a streetable cam car a or a drag car. You need to figure that out first and then pick a cam for your setup.Once you figure out what your long term plan for the car you can build it accordingly so everything works togther.

This is just gonna be a street car. Maybe once or twice a month to the drag strip but thats it.
Its mainly my daily driver.

Is it auto? If it is are you going to be getting a stall? Are you looking for an aggressive cam or something a little more tame? Provide us with a little more information on what you want and we can try and throw an idea or two your way.

1500 bucks and you're only doing a cam? I just spent 1300 and got ls6 heads, 232/234 cam with comp springs and 33lb injectors with a fuel rail lol. If I were you I'd do a little more than a cam

When adding up the cost don't forget you will need a tune to get the full potential out of whatever cam you get. Depending on if you do a mail order tune (not really suggested) or a tune at a local place, it will cost between $300-$500 for a tune. Since I have helped you to spend (let's say $400) you now have $1,100 to spend.

A couple good options.... Look in the for sale section for a good set of used heads. You can save up to 50% doing this and find a great set of heads for around $700. Or, you can do the same thing with a cam, pushrods etc. Just because you get something used doesn't mean you will make any less power.

There are lots of people on this site that change head and cam combos fairly frequently. That leaves a lot of good parts for sale cheap.

If you go new on anything talk to Texas Speed. I have bought lots of parts from them and their customer service is GREAT. Even if you go used you will still need seals, gaskets etc so talk to Texas Speed.

Good Luck.

If you don't like the idea of used heads, you could get a cam, hook a true dual setup to those long tubes, and grab a used ls6 intake and with a tune you'd have spent right around $1500 I'd think.
